Is there any reason that I couldn't/shouldn't cut the Exhaust right behind the Axle?

Cut mine with a sawzall using a metal blade. Took seconds and came out really smooth

Used compound cut roughly a 45 degree slash cut down and 45 to the outside. Sprayed it black, and you'd never know exhaust was there. No issues re noise, fumes , etc.

I think I'm going to do that this weekend. I'll borrow my dads sawzall. Must be the only tool I don't own lol. I think I'm going to put a tip on mine and paint it black.

Ah Tacomaworld. Only you could argue about CO emissions danger from moving the exhaust exit location 18 linear inches through open air.

Just don't leave the house. Stuff happens out there, and not all of it's safe.

In other news, this is a realistic concern in some states:

Because it's specified that the exhaust must "exit the body of the vehicle". This isn't an issue for you OP though because:

So you're in the clear. Hack it after the dump over the axle. Piece of advice: Take a file and some 1000 grit to the cut edge afterward, otherwise an errant hand the next time you're working in that area may get cut way the fuck open. I guarantee the odds of that are higher than carbon monoxide poisoning.

That vent was deleted years ago. Its solid metal now to cure noise complaints.

On a side note, does anyone know if a TRD catback exhaust will sound any different if it is cut after the axle like Turner's above me?

I am just curious because I may get a H/C bumper at some point or may just want to "hide" the tip of the exhaust and don't want the sound/performance to change.

You probably won't want your exhaust breathing directly on your spare all the time.

You know... I think maybe a little? :notsure:

It's kind of hard to tell since my tires howl so much. But taking off on the access road I think I could hear it just a little bit more but if I did it wasn't much at all.

I have thought about this too, but more to get it higher to avoid water intake if I big down. Flip side is if you can't see it you can't tell as good if it is submerged.

Cut it off, throw one of these in the cab and see what happens...

The only undesirable thing I can think of would be the low frequency resonance of the exhaust in the cab.

Has anybody thought about the long term affects of exhaust gases being corrosive. The moisture from your exhaust could cause things to start rusting prematurely.

Honestly (not to discount your idea) I would think driving in the rain for one day would = many months of moisture from the exhaust. JMO. Besides I very rarely sit in traffic (one of my pet peeves). I'll drive out of my way just to avoid it lol

^^^ I don't know, but it seems like a legit question to me. I've seen so many exhaust leaks which did not get taken care of and the exhaust corroded large patches of sheet metal from the body. Granted this is pointing downward, but I was also wondering about the long term effect from corrosive gases. Has anybody else noticed additional rust near their diff or thereabouts?
