Another tire size question.

245/75r16 -265/70r16 or 265/75r16. Is there any performance reason why 245/75r16 wouldnt be the better choice of tire size with mpg, traction, and power considered. Looking for answers that dont end with because they look better. Thanks. Also I have the 6 speed an was wondering if smaller tires increases rpm?

 

yes, you will turn more rpm's with a smaller tire. P265/75/16 is good size for looks and performance. they ride a little better with a taller sidewall, and as long as you stay with P metric and stay away from LT series your mileage will be about the same. you did not state whether 2wd or 4wd, only way to get more ground clearance is to get taller tires. with the bigger tires your rpm's will be lower for the same speed than 245/75/16 and your truck will handle a lot better.

 

245s are stock and are tall enough. a 265 width tire will slightly decrease mileage, 265/75 is a bit taller, and 265/70 I believe is about stock height. 265/75 being the tallest, only yields a 3% change in rpm vs actual speed.

to me, it is worth it to run 265/75 not only for the increased off-road traction and curb climbing ability, but it is a factory chevy size so there are a plethora of choices available.
