Since the weather's been nicer in the last week, I've been rolling with the windows open and started noticing a clunking sound coming from the back of the truck getting progressively more frequent. I figured it was a shackle on some recovery gear or my ball mount knocking in the receiver as I'd only hear it on bumps.

Tonight I decided to pull over and silence anything bouncing around in the back, but nothing *was* bouncing. So I glanced under the truck to see if anything was hanging/obvious like the spare tire, and there it was. Half of the bottom leaf spring, wedged between the bottom of the overload leaf and the rear brake line.

~230000km. Not bad I guess, but not the kind of failure I was expecting nor happy to see.

So... I limped home from where I saw that, managed to get the piece of leaf back to where it came from, secured it from sliding around and into my tire or the brake line with a hose clamp and I'll be at my buddy's shop in the morning for something unrelated.

    Feck.

Leaning hard toward the OME setup. Nitro Sport shocks all around, 885 fronts, Dakar rears with helper leaf. It's a known good setup, and I should be able to have it in my hands within a day.

Anyone have a good reason for me to not go with OME?

    Cheers.

Probably more a function of the shocks than the springs? At least I've heard others correct this condition by modifying the valving of the shocks. :notsure:

I had the same spring leaf break in the same spot on my '09 base model (with only 50,000 miles on it!). I found a set of tsb's from a member on here. I wish I could spring for the setup you are looking for, best of luck to you!

Those running the 885s and Dakars - did driveline vibes show up when you installed? And did you need to swap out the UCAs?

I know my LCA cam-bolts are frozen in place, hopefully they're still extractable should we need to adjust down there. If not, this could get expensive really quickly...

I'm considering the overload leaf too - like beavis, I've got a topper on there most of the time, I tow a utility trailer with at least 100lbs of tongue weight from time to time, and fill the box with stuff now and again. I don't think they'd be a waste, I just hope they don't cause too much extra lift for no good reason. Any comments on this?

    Cheers.

How do you guys like your DAKARS? When I first got them they rode sooooo smooth. Now they're pretty rough. And only thing I don't like is they can't hold a lot of weight but I guess its acceptable since they are more offroading springs

My driveline vibes actually went away after putting my OME lift on. I did swap out my UCAs and I'm glad I did since I had the seized LCA bolts. (I'm hoping to get those taken care of soon).

I tow on a pretty regular basis and the dakars seem to hold up my ~400 lb tongue weight trailer well. I didn't do the extra leaf and still feel like I don't need them.

Overall, the OMEs are the best lift kit if you have a reasonable budget. It's all bolt-on and the parts are all very well made.

The Dakars are more for off-roading but I recall reading somewhere that they meet the factory payload rating. Mine have been rough since I got them but I was already used to the TSB springs.

    Good to know.

Ok, also good info to keep in mind. It's something like $30/side for the overload springs, so I'm even thinking it's worth having on hand just in case during install...

    Cheers.

With a topper and maybe 200lbs of salt it droops pretty hard. Its noticable.

Maybe a difference between Dakars designed for Gen 1 vs. Gen 2?

OZ, Max, are you guys just running the Dakars or did you put the overload spring in there too?

I currently have the regular Dakar pack but I am going to add the d29xl OME AAL , it isn't an overload though , it's another leaf
