Would you do this to your truck? This truck was at the Bass Pro. I like how it looks different and been searching on line for a kit like this. Any one seen this before on a Tacoma?

I would like to see how it's connected since the hood still needs to open. So far the most innovative snorkel I've seen is the one that was run into the cowl plenum. Nothing sticking up out of the truck.

I'd rather have a Safari snorkel than that big ass can sticking out of my hood though.

It looks more like a centrifugal pre-filter for the air intake than a fording snorkel. Makes sense in the context of the safari platform. One of these could easily be added to any watertight snorkel system. Never seen one on a Tacoma.

I don't like how it's right in your face. Could be a possible blind spot.

Nearly identical to a military HMMWV. You get used to it quickly.

Someone does make a centrifugal pre-filter for the Safari Snorkel, can't remember who. Some guys run them in the winter.

Agreed. It's called a Hummer-Style snorkel, it's a mod fairly common on Jeeps. However, those are always ducted though and mounded to the fairing behind the hood, I've never seen one on a hood before.

    Here's a Jeep-style one on a TJ:

That looks awful on that truck. Makes you wonder if there is an engine or a bbq pit under the hood. The HMMWV ones don't even look that bad.

It wouldn't be so bad if the intake was lower, like right above the hood. But, that thing is massive. I bet it blocks a lot of vision from the cab.

Yea it needs to be shorter like that Jeep one. It just looks like a chimney stack to me.

We had a homemade one like that on my brothers old FJ40. We used a hose similar to dryer vent house to connect the tube to the intake. We could open the hood almost 90 degrees before the snorkel hit the windshield. It worked great. I'll see if I can dig up some pics of it, it was like 10 years ago...

does look like there is a bbq or woodstove under the hood. I'll bet it makes wind noise when driving too..

The top hat is most likely a pre-cleaner. similar to whats on a tractor. Do the safari snorkels have a pre-cleaner?

Safari Snorkels come with a ram air head but there is a pre-cleaner head available and some guys run them in the winters to keep the inlet from icing up.

I have a 1940 Chevy and this looks like the air filter on it. Of course it is under the hood.

Yeah. No way. Out in the sticks, where the worst thing you run over is a deer or kangaroo, fine. In city traffic, with kids and pedestrians crossing the streets everywhere, no effin' way.

the mil one is further aft, and the fat part is up above the cab.

Agreed. The blind-spot effect is pretty much the same, though. After a while, you don't notice it much.

Keeping the intake pipe close to the windshield creates a flat space on the HMMWV hood that is just large enough for an average-sized person to sleep, away from the mud and crawling insects, with the engine heat supplying welcome comfort on cold nights. I've spent many nights there.
