The Tacoma is fine in the snow. I have read a lot of threads about the death trap of abs and I didn't experience it one bit last winter (the death trap that is).

It's Tacoma handles the snow just fine, drive smart and it won't be a problem

Who relies on ABS when they drive in non snow conditions ?

    I don't understand your point

I have slid before and know what happens with abs and without. I would consider my self a good drive but who wouldn't. People say I drive fast but slow down in winter and you guys suggest tires and that will be an upgrade as I am not going to have a lot for mods till I get more money. I will be getting the truck in fall (hopefully) and that why I just ask about the snow. Yea I dont get "that a good driver should need them." I have had them kick on in rain when they should even have been needed. Not something I can choose unless I do the ABs mod which I will see how I do the first winter with the truck before I go messing with that. Just a general question. What mod should I do first that is on the cheaper side. I don't really consider adding weather techs a mod as I will get them when I get the truck.

to say it is a death trap is dramatic. The issues I have encountered with ABS have come at very slow speeds 5-10km/hr while on packed snow and ice. I live in an area with long cold winters. In these conditions, a designated snow tires without question, provide improved performance over an AT. In addition the sensitivities of ABS are noticeably reduced.

If you are tall, this mod actually makes for quite an improvement. I was super impressed with quality of the product.

They do fine. The ABS is sensitive, so drive accordingly. Around here, we like to say "4WD helps you go, it does not help you stop." I survived 2 storms this winter that closed the interstate, and didn't miss a day of work because of them. I don't think the Hankook Dynapros are the best in the snow, but they're much much better than stock tires after they get a little wear on them. Manage your momentum correctly and you and your truck will become one with the snow.

I don't know about the mirror relocation as I am only 5'9". If it is a height thing when I drove one it seemed fine where it was.

I'm 5'10" and I still found it was a big improvement

I run a dedicated studded winter tire (General Altimax). They are fantastic on ice and hard snow packed roads.Since I started using these in the winter I very seldom have to use 4x4 to get additional traction.Highly recommend a studded winter tire if you live in any snowbelt area where the roads are not maintained well ( kept free of snow /ice).

People were overreacting to when it comes to the ABS. If you drive accordingly to the conditions and have winter tires you're going to be fine. I found once I got winter tires I was using the 4x4 a lot less, only if there was deep snow. The jist of it is though it comes down to the driver and driving habits.

Driving style AND SPEED will most determine everything. Without studded tires, speed, and too much of it, will be the key factor when driving in snow.

I'd like to see you handle some black ice with a foot of snow on the ground. You don't need studded tires, just a dedicated winter tire.

FWIW, I used to be a winter driving instructor in north central Vermont and the Taco is probably the best vehicle in snow that I've personally owned, maybe second to my old 1992 Pathfinder. Put some Duratracs on there and you will be unstoppable (I mean that in a good way ;) ). ABS isn't much of an issue if you downshift to slow down instead of use your brakes.

//Mine is a 2006, not sure how the newer traction control doohickies have changed things on the more recent models.

Taco's handle fine in snow. In March we got 22" of snow dumped on us and I had no problem getting around. Of course everyone else was stuck in the ditch and I had to maneuver around them. 4wd hi and it handled great, 4wd lo driving uphill where it wasn't plowed not a problem on or offroad in the deep fluffy stuff.
I have Firestone Destination A/T on and about 3~400 lbs of sand & dirt bags in the back of the bed. I also have a 6 speed manual so ABS wasn't an issue.
And a mechanical LSD diff so that helped alot.

I had a abs problem when I was driving very carefully in the fresh snow. I SLOWLY slid right through a intersection and the other drivers were looking at me like I was intentionally idling through the red light at the intersection lol

Once this next winter hits i'm going to do the abs mod for sure, I suppose the above tires would also help ....

Tacoma is stock and staying that way, Pickup is TBA as of now.
If you brake gently it never comes on. I can only think of maybe 3 times last winter when mine ever kicked in. Before this truck, the newest rig I had was a 1980 model year, so guess I am just used to driving without ABS or any of this traction control stuff.

One snowstorm since I bought it. It handles the snow better than my Jeep.
