I just picked up a 4cyl auto because I got too good of a deal to pass up. I'm just wondering how well the autos hold up compared to the manuals. After driving a stick for the last 9 years, I'm not sure how I feel about it just yet. I know the manuals are bullet proof. How about some autos weigh in.

That's what I like to hear. I don't plan on towing anything. Just using the bed to haul supplies for my new house.

The previous owner had a tow hitch on there which does have me concerned. The trans didn't feel like it was shifting hard or anything.

In the process of picking the truck up now. The truck does have a hitch and plug setup. Does have my slightly concerned but it is certified and has the warranty. Ill monitor it closely for signs of abuse. Didnt feel like it on the test drive at all. Could of been hauling some thing very light. The interior looks immaculate and the rest of the truck looks extremely well taken care of.

What is high milage to you? My 01 tacoma had 285k miles, many of them towing. It never missed a beat. Never had trans issues and never burned a drop of oil.

Well it only has 48k on it. So not many miles at all. I was planning on having the trans serviced soon and doing the rear diff myself.

I got them to include the bumper to bumper extended warranty for 5 years or 60k. So I should be good for a long time.

Tacoma is stock and staying that way, Pickup is TBA as of now.
How many miles we talking about? Probably just needs to be flushed and have new ATF in it and you will be good to go for another 100k. Toyota builds their stuff right, I wouldn't worry about it although I drive a manual 4 banger, their autos are pretty good in their trucks.

It's an 07. It's the comprehensive warranty through Toyota as I got it from a Toyota dealer. It's bumper to bumper coverage. It's not an off brand company. Been down that road before. Never again.

I have a 2010 auto 4cyl that I bought brand new Nov 09. It has 115000 miles on it, almost all highway miles. I changed the tires at 80k, the plugs at 100k, and run synth oil. I do all of the maint myself and I get 25-28 mpg hwy.

Nice. Good to know. Ill be doing most of the maintenance myself as well. Oil changes and other fluids. I won't service an auto trans myself tho. I did that in my forester and I don't think I'd do it again.

I drove over 140 miles yesterday. 90% city type and got 22 mpg. So I'm happy with that. Just gotta avoid the lights and stay off the gas

That same basic transmission was used in Toyota motor home that weighted 6,000# If it only has 48K you can do a full trans service with no issues 90K plus with dark fluid good ideal to leave it alone.

I'm glad to hear that toyotas are such good vehicles. I can definitely see why they bring top dollar even with high miles.

I lucked out on mine. The dealership had the wrong price listed on the Internet and had to honor it lol. Oops. I wanted the 5 speed but after the deal I got on this, I'm not gonna complain. Just gonna enjoy the truck.
