I have a 2012 Tacoma 4 doorPrerunner, 2wd, 4.0, auto. I have already removed the Carbon filter and installed a K&N airfilter and have noticed modest gains in fuel economy. (22.5MPG) While I had the air filter out I noticed there is a screen in front of the Mass Airflow Sensor and that the entrance under that has a nice radiused velocity stack type arrangement. I can't help thinking that the airflow would be much smoother with possible gains in fuel economy and or performance if this screen were removed. I do know why it is there. It is attached as was the carbon filter. Other than the usual make the lawyers happy CYA , anyone have any thoughts or experience with/on this?

i took mine out. i think it is actually suppose to straighten out the airflow as it is placed in a slight bend right before the MAF, but i have noticed nothin with it out. http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/2n...r-factory-airbox-airbox-mods-2005-2012-a.html i just did a take on this but i used plastic instead of aluminum and only did the upper part of the box. i have only drove 300 ish miles on it like this and havent been able to check my mileage yet. it sounds a little different and at least in my head it seams like i coast much better in 5th before the dreaded down shifts occur.
