I recently changed the oil on my 2012 Tacoma, and have a question, which might be considered a trivial question, but I went over the 5 1/2 quarts required by about by about 4 ounces approximately according to the quart measurements. My question is should I worry about it or should I just drain the overage? I know this sounds like a stupid question, but I' be more comfortable knowing what the majority of the forum feels about this situation as stupid as it might sound. Thanks to everyone's replies.

I wouldn't worry about 4oz of overfill. That small overage isn't going to hurt anything at all. Just curious, how high is it on your dipstick?

I have a 4banger and the oil was a bit high to begin with. When i took it in for the 5000 mile inspection they said it wasnt a big deal. If its under warranty i wouldnt worry. Ill have and check it now i had the 10000 mile oil change. Seems like they fill it a bit high.

    Yup 5.5 on a V6.

4 ozs I wouldn't worry about. Its when you really overfill one where it becomes a problem. If you overfill one too much you run the risk of the crankshaft "spinning" in the oil among other things and that isn't good.

About 1/16 to maybe 1/8 of an inch past the full mark on the dip stick.

Personally I'd drain some. I'd rather be 1/8th inch under the full line (still within operating spec) than anywhere over. That's just me though.

I would drain it a little. Your engine could blow up. Lol

What kind of dip stick do you have where you can tell exactly where the line is? I can tell I have oil in the pan but that's about it.

I'm only gonna put in 5 quarts when I do my first oil change. I'm sure half a quart isn't going to make a difference.

Dayum, I am colorblind as hell. I can't see the read line but know where it's supposed to be. That pic just ruined my day!

5.5 is maximum. 5 is still in acceptable range for proper lubrication.

Just out of curiosity... Why would you not put exactly what the owners manual calls for? That's kind of like saying "I know the owners manual calls for 6 spark plugs for my truck but I think 5 will be fine".

    I don't get it?

If you buy a OEM filter 5.5 qts is exactly what it calls for.
