LOTS of threads on "max tire size", perhaps too many. i'd like to get the size tires that correct the speedo, AND be as wide as possible for the looks.

    265/65/17 = stock tires
    265/70/17 = corrects speedo

assuming the 70's are a bigger diameter, thus correcting the "slow" speedo.

    what can be done?

if this has been discussed before, please provide link to exactly what i am asking.

    figuring you can't just:

    MAX/70/17

because when you change the first number (width) the second number (70) changes for the same diameter. we need a certain diameter to correct the speedo.

285/65/17 is almost the same as 265/70/17 as far as circumference. But that is probably a little wide for stock rims and would probably rub.

275/65-17 is also reasonably close to the diameter you want, but I can't tell you if it will rub. I don't have a lot of experience with this on my Tacoma, but on my other vehicles (VW vans) the wheel width can make a huge difference with tire clearance to the body and suspension components.
