Like a dope, I left the window open over night and it rained  I dried out the rug and thought I was going to be OK. Now after a few days it still smells like mildew. Any ideas how to get rid of the odor without making it smell like cheap perfume ??

    Thanks in advance JIM

You dried out the carpet but did you dry out the padding under the carpet? Remove the seats, pull up the carpet, treat and shampoo. If the padding is bad then just remove and replace if you can't get it clean. Also, clean the hell out of the metal inside, dirt gets everywhere and when wet will smell.

^X2 You could try putting a dehumidifier in over night also

First Thank you for your service. I was a cop for 27 years in NY, retired for the good life in Florida. After 6 weeks became a part time cop.... could stop/ missed it too much. Well within a year I got hurt and messed up my back bad. All my friends started coming by in uniform and I felt worse. My advice..... besides close your windows.... is to move on and enjoy life, get a hobby, I wished I listen, now I walk with a cane.

Try putting a fan in and open all the doors.. that what I did when my ac got plugged up.. (What I think happened)
I also dug up as much of the carpeting as possible, and sprinkled baking soda down.

You can try Febreze Fabric Refresher for Auto/Carpet/Bacteria etc. You can find these at Target or Walmart.
If you go this route, just make sure you like the scent and also don't overdo it. Just a little bit at a time.
If you need to go over the truck again that's fine...but if you go overboard, it may be overwhelming on a different scale.

Dry area completely with a small ceramic heater. Be careful!
Spray entire area with vinegar. Mop up & dry with rags, etc.
    Dry with heater.
Clean area with your favorite (coral blue) car carpet & upholstery cleaner.
Dry with heater, and leave truck doors open as long as possible on a dry sunny day.
Spray carpet with favorite (vanilla) sent spray.
Watch for a while. Mold has a way of coming back.
    Repeat as necessary.
    Enjoy!
