Classic. Always see your jerk ass comments and they put a smile on my face every time. Thanks.

Anyhow. To each their own. When my tacos value to me started to fade (like 2 weeks after I bought it) I decided to dump some money into it. Now I will never get rid of it. I will be looking toward a tundra in the future but my taco has been everything x10 and I'm not trying to fumble some toyota balls.

I like the F150 platinums. I'd drive one. The new 5.0 has plenty of pep too.

I couldn't be happier with my '13 TRD. I had a great little '86 Nissan/Datsun back in the day and my uncle had an 80's Yota 4x4 (think Back to the Future). Those old trucks were tough but the new trucks seem to drive better all around. Are you sure it's not just nostalgia?

Exactly. Average transaction is like $31,000 today. Just go price a Camry or Accord. Mustang GT's now start at $30k. 10 years ago you could get a GT for $20k OTD.

This 2nd gen is approximately 1.5 times the size of my 93 pickup and weighs 500 pounds less.

Didn't know that. It must be mostly in the frame, front suspension (if you have been under both trucks, you know what I mean), composite inner bed, and aluminum engine block. I just remember that "clang" when I shut the doors on the earlier trucks. Sure doesn't seem like there was much to the cabs.

I don't think it is nostalgia, but as I look at other options (I need 4wd, but don't necessarily need a truck), I see lack of quality from other manufacturers also. I think you have hit on something, I wasn't looking for something to drive better than my 93, maybe I wasn't the target market that Tacoma was aiming for??

I guess a couple of great German cars spoiled me.

Thanks for those who have suggested options. Was considering a Rav4, but concerned about quality there also. Sister-in-law has a Highlander. Anyone have any insight into the new Ravs or Highlanders?

Why does "quality" mean to you? Serious question.

Are you talking about a soft-touch interior with plush dash, leather sport seats, cushy steering wheel and blue and red gauges? Door thunk and that crap?

Or are you talking about being able to change the oil once a year, drive it for 200,000 miles with never taking it to a shop for anything other than brake changes.

I moved on recently....traded in my 05 PreRunner AC TRD OR for a 13 4x4 DCLB Sport. I seriously thought about moving up to a full size chevy or dodge, but they were just too big and expensive for what I need.

Sounds like I'm in the minority here, but I don't find the 2nd gens to be lacking quality at all. I've also owned an '86 Toyota pickup and a 1st gen 4runner, and I've been around numerous friends' Toyotas.

Actually it isn't the soft touch interior, etc. Compared to my old 93, that is exactly what I have found in the new 11, cushy...No offense, but I have commented to friends that if Buick made a truck, it would be the Tacoma.

For a truck, quality to me is interior that doesn't scratch easy (mine has never had anything more than a guitar case in it and has more scratches than my 93 had when I traded it). Quality is seating that I don't have to worry about picking at the drop of a hat. A dash that is durable. You get my ideas...

As I have said, the drive train is probably bullet proof, other things on the truck don't seem to share the same durability.

Sounds like you are talking about a European car. My Taco is an '05 with 140k on it. I regularly fill it with garbage from dirt biking and camping. Truck looks new.

OP, I agree second gens suck. I had a 93, it was totaled, I test drove a 2010 2nd gen, felt cheap as shit, then hunted down an awesome 1st gen.

The OP is probably right in his opinion of dropping quality in the Tacoma.
But what else can he get that DOES have increasing quality?
The other mid-size pickups are worse. Better to spend your money on upgrading what irks you the most about your vehicle. That's what this forum can help you with.

I like everything about it really!

but i see you in TN. I see some older pick ups/ early 1st gens quite a bit and in pretty good shape for the age. see them with mild body rust sometimes none really noticeable.

Tacoma is stock and staying that way, Pickup is TBA as of now.
Never, I love my lil truck and wouldnt have it any other way; knew what I was getting into before I pulled the trigger. No other midsize or compact can hold candle to the Tacoma, they are the best in their class hands down. If I ever get those thoughts all I'd have to think of is all the poor suckers in Chevy Colorados and the love affair would be back! I plan to drive this truck until either it quits or I quit, wouldnt be the least surprised if it outlasts me.
