Retractable Bed Covers

Im itching for a retractable bed cover. Security is probably my first concern. Low maintenance is also somewhat of a selling point. I've been looking at the Roll N Lock and the RollBak G2. However, I don't know much about the others retractables on the market.

Who's had them and what have y'all found to be the most secure and best working? Pro's/Cons?

I really appreciate this forum and the peeps in it! I installed the Dodge DRings in my bed as a result and rarely use the rails so do t really care one way or the other if I have to loose their functionality.

I'm interested to read what people have to say on this.

I'm still on the fence, I can't decide if I want some type of bed cover or a canopy. Both have their pros and cons.

I've used both the roll n lock and the full metal jack rabbit from pace edwards. I would buy the roll n lock in a heartbeat over the pace edwards. Roll n lock is great quality doesn't leak and will last a long time without any maintenance. The pace edwards needs a lot o maintenance and never worked smooth. Leaked water all the time.

How secure is the tailgate with the roll n lock? If I go that route, should I get a tailgate lock just to be more secure?

I went with a roll up from Truxedo. Just to have the option to cover the bed if I need to without using up any space in the bed.

But if hard top retractable is what you want, http://www.truckcoversusa.com/ has nice ones.

There are also some good write-ups on here about securing your tailgate.

Personally, I believe its just deterrence. There is nothing stopping someone from breaking into your bed with or without locks. Go watch car thief videos and it will really depress you.

Just bought a truck covers USA yesterday. Hopefully will be here on Monday. Looked at a retrax, but the quality is far superior on the American roll cover than retrax. I also like the finish much more on the American roll cover than the retrax brand. Americn roll cover costs more, but I believe you will get what you pay for in this type of situation.

I have the American Roll cover. It is, by far, the best on the market. I picked it up from www.autoanything.com they match and beat prices. Then get your local Truck Covers USA installer to install it for $100 buck. It is the most durable, sturdy, dependable cover out there. It locks every 12" and you can sit on top of it and it won't budge. It has a quick release cord along with the smallest canister on the market. I love the cover, and I have no doubt that you will too!

Oh, and it has 3 drain tubes (one in each track and one in the canister). All others that I have seen only have two. As far as security, Truck Covers USA is the best. It is keyed, but comes with a quick release cord for easy access. You will need to get a Pop&Lock tailgate lock. Make sure you wire it to your passenger side door and not the driver's door. This way when you unlock your truck you will have to hit the unlock twice to unlock the tailgate; otherwise, every time you hit the unlock button your tailgate will unlock. I also bought the tailgate rubber seal. It helps but is not 100% water-proof; however, this is the most water proof rolling cover you will find out there. Hope this answers your questions.

I know a guy that wanted to use "truck alterations" and speaking with the owner he acted like he really could not get him a good deal on the cover as the owner was going to charge him to send it freight. He then called Auto Anything and they matched "truck alterations" price of 1389, but then beat it for a total of $1314.00 shipped. The price also included the keyless entry feature. This was yesterday, so I imagine you could get the same deal today.

If you want to get the price above like i did, you might want to hurry. Speaking with truck alterations, they were going to stop selling them and take it off the website. The owner acted like it would happen soon. It is currently still up though at this point.

WOW! I thought they were more like $6-700. I had no idea they were nearly $1400.00 Seeing that price just helped me make up my mind on a canopy.

You can find covers in the price range above, but I don't think the quality is as good.
You can check out Retrax which I believe is under $1000.00.
