That's about what I'll expect - 21 mpg with the added weight and drag of 4WD. I doubt if many V6s get that.

Not many V6 gets 20+ but too many variables to consider. I know I can get 20's in the highway with a 4x4 DCLB Auto and even with a 4x4 DCSB 6speed but then there's also the 4cyl guys out there complaining about getting only 1-2 gallons better with their 4cyl.

Test drive both and decided.

By the way, I worked at the Naval Underwater Weapons Center in Newport, RI, back when the Tall Ships came to Narragansett Bay.[/QUOTE]

I currently work in Newport. Such a beautiful place! The Tall Ships still make there rounds around these parts.

ive owned both motors in 4wd, and I ve owned all three trans (5 speed manual, 6 speed manual, and auto in the V6)
The 2.7 is a great little (well actually big) 4 banger, BUT its not a huge price increase to get the same truck with the V6! The power difference IS HUGE and the fuel economy is too close between the two engines to justify the 4 cyl...my experienced opinion
