    Curious how this would be different to driving and all-time 4wd vehicle since those are made for street purposes as well. And werty drives pretty hard on asphalt 4wd, but that is a straight line more or less.

    I suppose you may be putting more strain on your diffs and transfer case on a flat level surface than on ridged, uneven rocks, dirt and mud. Hmmm

    Quick google search on the difference of 4WD and AWD will answer all your questions. They are very different systems, i.e. 4WD no center differential just a transfer case with no way to differentiate the power being distributed front and rear hence the bind. The center diff in AWD systems allows for the differences in rotation that occur between the combination of front and rear tracking distances while turning (and minute differences in tire diameters).

    Ah. I was under the impression that all time 4wd and awd were different. I work with a guy who has a 70 somethings scottsdale that all time 4wd and just figured that technology wasn't around then for center diffs and what boys.

    There are differences from manufacturer to manufacturer as to how the All time 4WD and AWD systems deliver power. My previous post was a very broad synapses of basic AWD vs 4WD systems.

    here are my .02 ... if your in 4 hi you should not have an issue driving anywhere or anytime you want to rain or shine i have tested mine out on dry pavement in 4 hi and 4 lo on dry pavement .... 4 lo is a different story though !

    i am not saying sit at a complete stop in the middle of a parking lot put it 4hi crank it into A FULL LOCK and floor the gas ... thats just dumb... but just everyday driving i have never had an issue !
