Bought '09 4x4, now with 900 miles. Most new vehicles have some "hot" smells when they are new, but...I have used H4 four times for short distances, about 20 total miles. On each ocassion it would smell like hot rubber when I stopped. Is this the normal smell from being new and getting hot? anyone else smelled this?

Just hate going to the dealership for stuff like this...smells or noises are hard to verify.

Describe the driving you did in 4wd. On or off road? Wet or dry? Speed? Etc.

It was mostly on snow/slush State Route (50 mph), few miles each time. No off road.

I want to say mine did the same thing when I tried 4*4 on the hwy over 50. The front diff got hot and the breather kicked out some overflow onto some hot parts on the motor because Yota overfilled the front diff. After the first couple pukes of the overflow everything seems and smells fine.

i would just watch and smell for a while and let things settle. Your under warranty so your fine.

That makes sense...suppose I could confirm it by looking under for evidence of overflow. I guess I didn't expect it would get that hot, unless there was a problem.

Don't want to do any damage if I can avoid it...thanx.
