I'm about to close on a Access Cab 4x4 I found a good deal on, but originally I had my year set on a Double Cab Short Bed, but good ones are hard to find for a decent price.

I don't have family members to haul around, just me and my stuff.

Do any access cab owners wish they had a double cab instead? And if so why? Or why not?

    Thanks,
    Alex

Nope. Love my AC. If I did a DC it would have to be the long bed. I dont like the shortbed looks or useless bed

I love my AC. I've only wished I had a DC a couple times during the 5 years I've owned my AC. I have no regrets.

A/C FOR THE WIN! best of everything, Short wheel base, long bed, still has room in the back for dogs/people if you neeed

plus you can't get a double cab with a locker/offroad package (in Canada anyway)

    No.

DC's have some pretty major structural issues due to poor engineering I have yet to see in the AC models. Due to excessive cab flex the steel in the body above the rear doors begins to crack and rust out.

I also need a bed in my pick up truck.

No regrets. Perfect mid-size truck imo

I've owned a PreRunner with extended cab for 12 years, hated the fact I couldn't get into the rear cab that easy without rear doors. Now I own an Access cab, I'm in heaven with it. The perfect truck for me.
When Toyota bought my PreRunner back due to frame rot in Dec '12 I was given a '13 DCSB for a loaner till the check was cut. Hated driving it for 3 weeks, felt like driving a stationwagon. Had to remove the rear headrest just to use the rearview mirror.

    A/C for the win!

I love my access cab. It gets a little tight behind the seats when I want to put a lot of groceries there, but no big deal.

I moved up from a regular cab Colorado to a 2013 EC V6. Love the extra storage space behind for storing my computer and files when I'm on volunteer excursions. Tested a DC before deciding on the EC, for me felt like driving a tank. No regrets, no need to haul people so plenty of room plus I have a full size bed for hauling firewood and such.

If you don't have more than one adult passenger on a regular basis, the AC is great. It's nice how the doors open wide and create a huge space to stand in while you load things in, get tools from the storage compartment, or just reconfigure inside before you drive off. It's also been excellent so far with a kid in a car seat should that become a need in the future. Figure I've got 12 years before the AC is unreasonable for a family of three.

The AC is perfect for myself, my wife and our two Labs. No regrets here. I would/will get another in the future.

I regret it some times. I am 50/50. I go camping a lot with other TW members. The guys with the DC have more storage in cab for the little things that take up space. and when we are all parked side by side they can still get into there back seat.

And in town if I need to take more than 2.5 people the AC is very uncomfortable.

How ever once we are out on the trail and camping the AC is much better I can just drop the tailgate and sleep inside the bed + more room for gear. I never have gear packed up past the depth of the bed. The guys with the DC have gear packed half way up the rear window.

If Toyota just put some storage behind the rear seat it instead of a waist of space you cant access it would be a bit better. That and the way the suicide read door opens. There is just some thing about it. In a tight space when the main door is open and you go to open the access door you get pined. I don't know what could be done to solve the problem I am not an engineer but it is a bad design.

2011 AC 4X4 and love it. I like the looks of DC, but I do not have a need for it. A DC with rear seats removed would be useful to me.

This ^^ No grocery-haulers (SBs) for me. I like my AC just fine although I have recently decided that I want more space (in and out) which is why I'm moving up to a Tundra.

My AC is a great vehicle even with a three year old child. A forward facing car seat fits well in the back though it gets hard to get it to set tight with the latch system. The only draw back to the AC is the door arrangement. If you are parked in a parking lot and need to load items in the back seat it really gets weird trying to open the doors when parked close to someone.

Double Cab was the way to go for me. It all depends on what you are looking for. Another poster said structural issues????? What the hell is he talking about, mine is a champ. In my opinion it is like a house you like the one you buy but always wish you went bigger for growth!
