I think it is the value some put in knowing that the truck isn't a complete turd from the previous owner. If the PO drove it like he stole it; an engine replacement could easily make up the difference.

Good to hear, I usually sell my vehicles after 2 years and less than 15k miles.

Completely agree. I'm on my second new Taco, 1 used. They hold their resale so well, for an extra 2k you can just buy a brand spanking new one. I paid 25k OTD for my 07 Prerunner. Drove it for 6 years until I totaled it. Insurance gave me almost 22k back for it 6 years later. The resale on these things are ridiculous. My Toyota guy did the math and it came out to like $48 a month driving it for those 6 years.

I did a ton of research on this. And for me, it was nearly a draw on new vs used. Now, I wasn't looking at stuff with 60k + on mileage as I put a ton on (40k in the last 7 months already). But, used wasn't a better deal. New got me better warranties, more room to negotiate (seemed odd that it was so on new) and far far better financing. Saved a few % on interest buying new. So, for me it made sense, maybe some regions are different. I also found that getting a DCLB 4x4 was like finding a unicorn in the Southeast (I was in SC at the time), so newade that easier too.

    Oh..... And new smells good!!!!

There's nothing wrong with buying used (well, sort of); however, you'll always have that piece of mind knowing your truck's history by buying new... :)

Not for nothin, but your math is wrong. Your numbers have a new Tacoma 20% more than a used. That's not trivial.

I bought my 05 DCSB in December of 2009. It had 45K miles and a matching camper shell. Bought it on a private sale for $17500. It was worth more than I paid for it when I drove away! A new 09 would have cost me at least 9K more. There are good deals out there.

Same here... In 2011 I wanted a DCSB 4x4 and a new one was just out of my finacial reach. I got a Certified 09 and was able to knock the price down quite a bit.

On top of that, I dont know about the taxes in most states but here in Maine... If your vehicle is new, they wil RAIL you with the registration/excise tax!

In the end, it worked out for me. Its been a good truck, good warranty, the insurance and taxes are less and I dont mind getting it dirty!

I bet for many people it is far more worth it to go new. If I could have, I probably would have. In the end, I felt I made out well! I thought it was a good article. I guess it all depends on the person's situation...

That's why I bought new. I was looking for something with low mileage and everything that had less than 30-40k miles was only $1-$2k less than buying brand new. Why not by brand new, get exactly what I want, get a warranty, and get free oil changes for a while? It was a no brainer for me.
