I've looked around on tw and found mixed results. I went to an off road shop and asked them what I need to run 285/75/17's. They said that all you need is bilstein 5100's in the front set to 2.5 with no wheel spacers. Does anybody know for sure if this is true?

A 285/75/17 is almost a 34 inch tire. You will definitely need at least 2.5 inch of lift and wheel spacer for stock rims. Be prepared you will be trimming cutting and pounding to get them to fit with no rubbing.

I would also check under the tire specs on the tire brand website to make sure that the rim width is within the range of "approved rim widths"

I'm going to say no, 5100's alone are not going to get you satisfied with the setup.

Go smaller man, that's a huge tire.

So what size would fit under a truck with a 3 inch lift? Would LT275/70R18 Toyo Mt's fit?

It's all up to the OP and how much work he wants to put in. Homertaco is running 295's and he has billies set at 2.5, now keep in mind his trimmed and cut ALOT to make it work but it can be done. There is even a guy (forget his username) that is running 34's on stock suspension with glass and major trimming cutting and use of a BFH. It's all about the work you want to put into your truck...

    What about a 285/70/17?
thats like a 33.1" or so tire if I'm correct. will the Billy's alone be able to support this size?

I ran 285-70-17 duratracs on stock sport 17's with 1.25 inch spidertrax spacer on coilovers set at 2.25. I had to do some minor trimming at the bottom of the fender flare but that was it.

Thanks I'm trying to figure out the best ride, lift, size upgrade for the best price. thought about getting the Billy's 5100 all around and maybe new coils if needed to put some 285/70/17 a/t's prob some chokyamamas or duratracs something of that nature

Click in my build link. I've got a ton of pics on the first page that you can see with my truck on duratracs

I have zero complaints with them. On road try were great, quiet handled good did wonderful on wet roads too. Off road they did good too, sand they did good even without airing down. For dirt and mud did good also clean themselves nicely.
