Hi guys im going on an adventure from quebec to the yukon with my tacoma. I plan on doing the entire trip without stopping (about 3500 miles) since we change driver every 8 hours or so. I am wondering if my truck can handle this trip without stopping. Should i let it rest one day in between or it doesnt matter? I dont wanna blow the engine here p:

Long time in a vehicle!! Not sure about the truck but I bet it will be fun. I couldn't do it non-stop though... Enjoy!

I would suggest do at least half an hour rest every 2-3 fuel and pop the hood. Watch for the temperature.

Don't try to press all the way through. A good nights sleep will do wonders on a tired mind and body. It is extremely dangerous to try to drive that much without rest. Please don't be that guy that hurts someone or yourself because you're being stubborn.

I've done my fair share of solo cross country driving. I've traversed the US from the Atlantic to the Pacific roughly 10 times in my life. I look back now and consider myself crazy and lucky to have done it and survived. I take way more breaks now and drive shorter distances in a day. The truck will be fine but going to be hell on your body and mind.

Engines are designed to run and run and run. Human bodies are not.

That's a large gas tank to go without stopping...

Aside from that. I usually do alot of 7 hour drives and I don't stop. I HATE IT. I can't stay away and always have to call someone to wake me up, or pull over and take a 5 minute break.

We have done the strait run Albany ny to Orlando fl. It is only 1200 miles and we were beat (two drivers, comfy brand new passat) and we were beat.

8hr is long time to drive. 4 - 5 hr is typically my max. Stay alert, plenty of fluids.

We get out and walk around for 5-10 min. at each fill up. You can get some really serious (even deadly) blood clots in your legs from sitting too long. Even as short as an over-seas flight can cause problems. As comfortable as the Tacoma seats are, your back will be screaming for relief after 6-hours or so as well. We've driven from San Diego to Sacramento (500+ miles/7+ hours) several times as well as 6-hr drives to Phoenix, AZ and make time to get out and at least stretch a bit.

As Ray pointed out blood clots. The medical community recommends stopping every two hours and spending ten-fifteen minutes moving around -walking, squats, etc... My dad was a traveling salesman. Spent his life driving around 1960s-70s mid sized car seats. He wouldn't stop for anything and our vacation drives were sheer torture. We lost him a lot earlier than we should have due to that. Took me a long time to work that driving to hell and back without a break out of my system. I usually stop to fill up every half tank or so. (Gonna have to adjust that now as the Taco gets better milage than my previous vehicles.)

Back on topic, there is no reason to let your engine rest, it doesn't benefit from not running for awhile.

To start off, I agree with most of the previous posts. I used to drive for a living, and the job I have now requires quite a bit of driving. It is not out of the ordinary for me to have a 10-14 hour round trip drive in one day. If you pay attention to your body and take every precaution necessary, it is doable. The most important thing in my opinion is knowing when to stop. It is not worth you and/or someone else's life to keep going. Being said that you will be on 8 hour shifts, be careful and it should be a good trip. Oh, the truck will be fine too. Just watch the gauges.

Last year I drove straight through from Arizona to Montana, took me a little over 23 hours and I only stopped to fuel up. Pissed in gatorade bottles while driving and just threw them out the back slider into the bed. Once I stopped for fuel just tossed the piss bombs in the garbage. I drank lots of red bull and listened to music very loud to stay awake. Did the same on the drive home

I've done the same, 1 liter wide mouth Mt Dew. I've actually started the pump, then hit the head for a dump and gotten back before the pump clicked. :D

The main thing is to be safe and just use some common sense. None of us want to hear that 4 guys going cross country in a Toyota Tacoma were killed.

Just be safe and enjoy the hell out of your trip.....
