    2009 V6 Auto Access 4x4 TRD 52k here.

There have been a couple of times in the last few months when I had to get somewhere in a helluva hurry and pushed the speedo up around 100mph +/- maybe 5. I was surprised when the motor began cutting out in a manner that felt like a rev limiter. I wasn't paying attention to the RPMs. Best I can say was haulin' ass in 5th! So I backed it off to about 80-90 and cruised on to the fire.

Now, I realize a 4x4 truck isn't intended to be driven at 100mph, but I'm sure some of you have known similar circumstances!

Have any of you experienced this? I service it religiously at 5k with Mobil 1 5w-30, factory filter, and am still running the stock 265/70/16 BFG Rugged Trails if that helps anyone's reply.

My '11 TRD OR hit ~110 before it cut out. Had to see what it would do...once.

edit: on a track in Mexico.

I believe it's speed limited. There should be a rev limiter also but that wasn't what you experienced.

The Tundras also only do 110. I think Toyota does this to keep those big tires from flying apart at speed

It's a governor on the speed. Old work truck we had would not go over 96 but would only be at 2800 in 6th gear.

My old crown vic even had one, would not go over 107.

Rev limiter = when RPM reaches redline in any gear, the fuel cuts off. you can test this in 1st gear if you want.

Speed limiter is fuel cut off when you reach a certain speed.

From my understanding, no speaking about illegal activities on the road. Racing, high speed runs, general breaking the law type of things, I think.

Ok, I really did this on a track, I swear. My xrunner (same motor and trans) has been at 132 before the governor stopped it.

Fireman is fine but I know a couple and the severity of the call dictates how much over the speed limit is allowed. I doubt 100+ is necessary, safe or allowed (Even for Professionals).

Nope - not a fireman Worthy. But I certainly agree with you on respect for the Firemen and Women out there. Old high school buddy is a Battalion Chief here.

I was referring to that old Po-Po quote when one gets pulled over - "Where's the fire?"

I did the same with my old X-Runner, I think the XR has a higher speed governor then the regular tacos do.

Bet the XR had a higher speed rated tire from the factory ;)
