Sounds like an aftermarket thing... Take a picture of it for us?

Behind it should be a plug... Unplug it. If the wires aren't attached by a plug, follow them up under the the dash and unplug it. Its an aftermarket alarm. It will eventually lead you to a small black box about the size of a full men's wallet. If it causes problems with your lock/unlock, then plug it back it, but it shouldn't. Worst case just cut the wires behind the light.

I have a really hard time recommending people to just start cutting wires...

Normally I wouldn't either, but I've been a certified professional electronics installer for about 7 years now and have installed hundreds of alarms, so I'm about 99.8% sure I know exactly what it is, and cutting those wires won't hurt, however, I still recommend unplugging it if possible. If OP cuts its, I'd recommend leaving enough slack to reconnect if you have to. But I'm also 100% positive it can be unplugged if you search hard enough.

I say put a piece of electrical tape over it and call it a day. Then you won't have to worry about affecting its function :notsure:

Yep, alarm. Follow the wire, it will unplug. OR, you can unscrew it, put the little box on the opposite side of the lower dash panel (underneath) and put the screws back in. That way its still in place and functional, but the light is inside the dash where you can't see it

    Unscrew it

Flip it INSIDE the plastic trim, and secure with double sided tape.

U don't want the screw ends to gouge ur knee or shin

Why does everyone keep saying tape  that's soooo tacky and ghetto. So much easier to unscrew and flip to the inside. I just don't get it. The summer heat will melt the adhesive on the tape and eventually it will slip off, leaving a nasty gooey sticky black mess on your dash and floor.

i'd turn it 90* to the left(or right) so it's still somewhat visible when not driving

If you were worried about aesthetics that stupid box wouldn't be there in the first place. If you feel like you need to impress someone take it off. Using electrical tape shouldn't come off and if it does the adhesive isn't all that tacky anyway. Its not your truck and it is a viable solution. Ill be honest and say that taking and turning it around with the cable making a sharp corner right where your knee is would be more obvious. I hate cables hanging around.

I purchased the 7 year, 100k mile warranty that covers the electronics. As I understood correctly, this is the alarm. They told me to come back on Monday so they can program a chip. I was assuming that once you unlock the car, the light should turn off and only be on when the car is locked. I will talk to the dealer tomorrow and see if tey fix it. Otherwise will either flip it upside down, or hide under plastic. Not wanting to put it sideways as it would require to make a hole.

I realize its not my truck and that's why I already gave my recommendation to OP for what I would do. Yes, tape is an option, but I'm just stating that their is an easier and more permanent solution without disabling the box. I don't think you understood what I was saying though, I didn't mean to flip it around and make the wires tight and facing up towards the knee, a meant to physical unscrew it and take it off completely and then reattach it to the under side of that dash panel. That way no wires would be showing, your knee and foot won't hit it, nothing in punched, cut, removed, damaged, etc, and you don't have to look at a tacky piece of tape hanging there. Maybe I'm crazy but to me that seems like a much easier and overall better solution than tape. But that's just my opinion.

That is not the factory Toyota alarm.
It might be some abortion that Gulf States is using now, or installed by the dealer.

That "box" looks like a glass breakage sensor.
The factory Toyota sensor would be in one of the switch blanks above it, and the RED light would be on only when the system is armed.
