Just like the title says. Im going to buy a tacoma here in a few months and i am struggling to decide between the offroad or sport edition. Visually the sport edition looks a lot better. I like the scoop the color matched grill etc. But i like some of the options for the Offroad. THe Active Traction Control Front tow hook and the locking rear diff.
I have a tendency to beat the hell out of my vehicles. Hauling motorcycles, pulling trees out of the yard. Some offroading.
So i am leaning towards the offroad edition. Just wanted to know what other peoples thoughts were.

If you're going to use it off road I recommend getting the off road edition.

I have a sport and if I did it again...I'd buy a 4x4 base and spend the money I would save skipping TRD stuff in aftermarket setup.

If you are dead set on TRD - I think the Offroad is a better choice.

Do you want a short bed or long bed? Double cab? O/R doesn't have the long bed option. Sport looks better imho, and comes with the 4 leaf rear suspension instead of three, but lacks the rear locker. Of course all of these are upgradable with arb front and rear. All comes down to the cab style and bed length you want.

i wanted the access cab. for the longer bed. It looks like i can get a motorcycle in with no problem on the access cab.
I dont want to go too crazy with modding the truck. A few things, but not going all out to replace factory stuff

4X4 is the way to go-IF you plan to use it.
You will be surprised how you got along without it.
    Especially in the Va. winters.
You can see I am nearby-E.TN-use the 4x4 frequently.
Mountains get pretty slick with snow.
    Never been stranded.

This is something to think about, But the A-TRAC and e-locker are nice to have. I bought the TRD OR and tore out all the TRD suspension and sold the wheels and tires. I'm not sure how much you can sell the base stuff for. It just depends on how much modding you plan on doing. TRD OR is very capable stock.
Make sure you get the heavy duty vinyl flooring tho. Best $50 I spent.

This is all what i expected. I use the 4x4 and diff locking on my current SUV quite frequently. And i do like the Offroad options. The sport just looks better. Still it seems like the offroad is the option for me and spend a few bucks to correct the things cosmetically

I got an Off-Road w/factory sport body color grill from the dealer. I really HATE chrome!
Also scoop is non-functional, looks good though. You can actually re-skin chrome rear bumper to black.
    The E-locker is great.

I would do this. Buy the off road, changes the hood, paint, change/ trade the color matched bits. Ta Dah!! Best of both worlds.

I have a trd. If you plan on offroading it much the elocker is nice. That's really all I wanted. If I could I would get a base with e locker. And then use the money saved for a good mid travel suspension and some other mods

I have the Sport and love it. Have I since installed a rear locker, yes. Do I regret my decision on the Sport, no. If the OR was available in DCSB in Canada would I have gone that route, probably. I vote for the OR

If I could do it again. I would buy an Sr5 then put the lift in.

Scoops and painted accents are nice on the Sport, but Sr5 is by far the best value. You need to do a lot of wheeling to need a locker. I never do anything that requires a locker.

Yellow wire mod on the Sr5/Sport = tons of traction offroad with good suspension and tires.
