anyone upgrade to a heavier rear spring?I had 1000 lbs of gravel on my new taco and it sat on the frame bumpers.one dealers aftermarket dept has a heavier rear spring for $750 installed.no lift but stiffer.complete replacement set.
sound alright?any potential problems?I just know when I go camping between my trailer tongue weight and camping gear I'm at at least 1000 lbs and I still want some suspension travel left.I know the empty ride will be stiffer but I think I'm alright with that.
    Any thoughts?

I just switched to an allpro expedition pack. So far it has been excellent. rides pretty firm until you get a few hundred pounds in the bed but it's a truck so it's fine by me. Check out OME Dakar packs as well. Dealer option is a bit expensive but if they install it for that it might not be a bad deal unless you could do it yourself.

Edit: also with the expedition pack and Dakar pack you will see upwards of 3" lift.

^ yea for a spring pack that can handle some weight, the Dakar or Expo would be your best proven by TW picks.

1000lbs of gravel plus driver has got to be close to its limits already, pls use caution if exceeding the total payload.

my dodge had a payload limit close to the Tacoma.took 2500 lbs to bottom it out.I think the only thing lacking is a beefier spring set.
not that I want to overload the truck...but

    truck cap 100 lbs
    tongue weight 250 lbs
    passengers 300 lbs
    kayaks 100 lbs
    luggage 100 lbs

that's 850 lbs before tents, propane, stove, barbque, and the rest of my camping gear.I just don't want to be dragging my butt on the ground when driving 600 km each way when going to the mountains.
I see you can buy three different truck campers for the short box Tacoma from 850 to 1100 lbs.how is a person suppost to use that on a truck with a 1050 lbs payload capacity?

lol! The All-Pro Expeditions should be good enough for you. i'd recommend them. Anyone have experience with OME Dakar pack max weight characteristics vs the AP Expo max weight characteristics? I'm not sure which on handles weight like that better...? I'm guessing maybe the pack with overloads would be better? OME Dakar then?

Also woodchip, if you are running max payload often you should probably look into a bumpstop like the timbren or an air bag setup to keep you from getting squirmy with all that weight.

I think air bags are a better way to go for load support and no lift.

x2. im a happy wheelers customer but I just run the 3 leaf aal. I don't often run weight in this truck, but the aal helped a great deal in handling my boat and hauled a co-worker's much heavier boat very well.

they don't make these springs in their backyard, they are made by a reputable spring company, Alcan would be my guess

I bought Skyjackers leaf springs. So far, very happy about ride and carrying load.
