I don't know the Virginia vehicle codes but in California it's considered distracting to other drivers.

Should be a non-moving violation. Not sure you HAVE to go to court, can't you just mail it in and pay the fine? Either way, you should get that thing off your truck. They're pretty strict in VA about lighting laws (at least that was my experience when I lived there).

Blue lighting is generally restricted to law enforcement vehicles. I can't quote VA law, but you could be cited for impersonating a police officer in some places.

They do fix-it tickets? If so, remove it and the ticket gets tossed. Probably just a fine I would guess.

In NY any extra lights other than factory are considered unauthorized.

Remove it and go to court and show them you removed it and they MIGHT drop it. But if it were me, I would go ahead and pay it before court and remove them because you can come out cheaper that way by paying it instead of going to court to try and fight it. And it's illegal in va because its distracting to other drivers and it's mimicking LEO's. and technically anything that's not OEM on a vehicle in va is illegal. Also you shouldn't get any points added to your license

I got pulled over a few years ago for having Blue LED parking lights. The only vehicles that are allowed to display blue or red lights on the front of their vehicles are emergency vehicles...My fine was 140 and didn't receive any points on my license as it was NOT a moving violation...it was a "fix it ticket". Hope this helps.

You can take pics of it removed and take it to court. They should drop the fines.

That's how my tint tickets were.

You should be able to pre-pay it. I've paid several of mine before court date. Saves a lot if hassle IMO

In most of the states where I have lived, there are instructions on the ticket or a phone number that you can call for instructions. In 2013, there may be a web URL in addition to, or in place of, the phone number.

Never be afraid to stand up in public (in court, etc.) and admit that you have made an error. If you're wrong, fix it. Demonstrate that it has been fixed. Apologize. Plead for mercy if it suits you. Own it, fix it, and move forward.

Man that sucks... One more reason I'm glad I'm not a yankee. ;)

Hoping the VA thing especially is an exaggeration.

As said before, ticket should have instructions on it regarding how it can be taken care of. Can't imagine you'll have to go to court for something like that if you don't want to.

No idea on the points thing - we don't have those either. I'd hope that if it were going to be something that might potentially cost you your license the officer would've let you off with a warning first and given you the chance to fix it.

But!! If you were in Taiwan, it would be a different story. Blue lights are legal . The dome light on the roof of taxi cabs were BLUE!
