If that adapter is just that, a plug adapter, you should be able to just splice it.

Couldn't you just have an adapter that plugs directly into the new unit and the factory plug for the factory head unit that has the sat tuner? I have used a few that I bought from Crutchfield and they plugged in perfectly to the factory system. Not with this truck though so it might be different?

NO! You CANNOT splice that wire together. Your antenna will not work if you do that (if it does it won't work very well) Sat antenna cables are EXTREMELY sensitive and cutting and trying to solder it together will run you a very very high risk of failure. I have tried and failed more than once. This is the reason that stupid adapter is $70 because its the only option.

On another note, I have an 09' and my junction is in the passenger kick panel  are you sure its on the driver side? Have pics?

Sat antennas have receive amps inside they are powered through the antenna wire and use microwave frequencies far higher then the truck antenna is designed to receive. No cut and paste.
