you are exacly correct. Gulf States orders them a particular way. I filed a complaint with Toyota corporate about Gulf States. I was ready to hop on a plane and buy one in KC. If you want something out of inventory chances are you are going to have to over pay for crap you do not want. I finally got the price down to the range I was willing to pay and took one out of inventory. I had a couple of stipulations and one was no steps and the other no Vehicle Shield. Vehicle shield is $379 and steps are like $600. 2 Bajas in the Dallas inventory and they had both. Found one in southern OK and it only had the steps. I actually had one dealer that I made an offer to try to tell me that all Bajas come with steps. I had another one try to convince me that the vehicle shield was a good deal. Both of these statements were made by first tier sales dudes. I had another one get mad at me just because I was asking too many questions. Some people get frustrated with the whole process but I kind of enjoy it. I just went at it with the attitude that I had choices and one of them was to not buy anything right away.

Very interesting. I'm with you on finding this kinda fun with all the dealer misinformation and stuff. I too can wait, and it's beginning to look like the Kansas dealer was shooting straight with me all along.

That's the problem, base models without even a sr5 or convenience package are practically theoretical, they don't make more than a few a year because they are super low demand.

I assume you're from KY - Zip code 42001(Paducah) is one which will let me build a base AC 2.7 5-spd 4WD in Spruce Green without TRD OR/Sport or SR5.

What dealer did you order from? Do you have it yet?

If they do dual vvt and it's in the 190hp/200ftlb tq range like the article a few post up claims (obviously not a factual article but maybe founded on something).. and it remains a 2.7... please for the love of god cheap out and leave everything else as similar as possible.

I would reallllly like to swap heads and have it work for less than the cost of a supercharger ;P

Why is everyone so impatient? Toyota is very secretive, they don't leak out anything until they are ready.

Yes, I ordered a 2014. I figured I would have to order a 2013 to get everything I wanted on it and get it in spruce mica which is a hard color to find in the wild apparently. So after all the haggling over options and pricing they went to look for one. Nothing in FL with everything I wanted and the color. They had two magnetic greys with everything loaded but no spruce mica. So we went to place an order from the factory because I'm insisting on spruce mica. This was all on Monday July 1. The guy comes back and says I got some bad news. They closed down the factory today for retooling for the new 2014s. No more 2013s can be ordered. I'll have to get a 2014. I said okay, how long? He went and checked and came back said Mid September. Factory is down a month then comes back up and fleet orders get theirs first. He said he couldnt get mine here until Mid September. I thought about it for a bit and went ahead and made the order for a 2014.

There's another dealer south of me and the sales guy there was saying at least six weeks from factory so I'm thinking it is true. One way for you to find out. Go order it and see what they tell you.

So much bad information floating around. There's a guy in this thread that works at the factory......nothing about a shutdown or building of 2014s yet. I think i'll take his word over a random dealer.

I'm getting close to ordering with an Okla dealer now, after doing a Truecar and the best deal coming from a dealer 100 miles away, and who is a Gulf States dealer actually willing to place an order. I'll find out later today if he knows what model year it will be.

Yeah, please let me know what happens. If it turns out you can still order a 2013 from the factory I'm going back to my dealer and having a not so nice discussion with them.
