Front diff noise
I have a 2006 4x4 four door Tacoma with a 3 inch Toytec lift. When I drive down the street at around 40mph, it sounds like I have mudders on my truck. There is a distinct hum but I don't have mudders and it sounds like my front diff case. If I put the truck into 4 wheel high when the hum starts, it goes away. At road speed there is no hum. When I decelerate to come to a stop, the hum begins at 40 mph and lasts for a couple of seconds before it stops. Anybody heard of this problem or have recommendations?

I have heard that tacoma's have problems with the CV joints when lifted, but I do not have any first hand experience with this, just things I have heard.

I did the front diff drop also. Today, I removed the drop and test drove and the noise was still there. I re-installed the drop and still there. The noise is inconsistent, sometimes it is more noticeable than others.

Is there a possibility that the front drive shaft is turning by 4x4 isn't engaging?

Just got the truck back from the dealer. He told me that because there are no shims on the back end for the diff, it is causing a vibration in my front diff/ transfer case. I'm not buying it. Going to a 4x4 shop tomorrow.

Truck is fixed. Rear shims did the trick.
