    No shame in either, they're all Toyotas. 5 lug is just regular suspension and 6 lug is just 4wd & prerunner suspensions.

    probably to save costs too. less time machining wheel hubs,1 less stud per wheel hub, 1 less lug nut per wheel, it adds up.

    Prerunner's basically have 4wd suspension, but it's 2wd, correct? Not to offend anyone,just asking out of curiosity, what is the purpose of the prerunner? Is it if you want the look of 4wd, but only need 2wd?

    The Prerunner comes about as the trucks used to check out the race courses such as Baja.

    Trucks with heavy suspensions would chart out the course prior to their teams racing it. No need for a vehicles such as the racers to do this.

    I read this off a Toyota site some time ago ....:tumbleweed:

    I bought a prerunner because the base 2wd is way too low.

    Prerunner sits where a truck should. I don't need a truck where I have to bend down to put something on the tail gate.

    Prerunner is just a 2wd at the same height as the 4wd. The suspension is the same as the 4wd tacomas and comes in the same trim levels as the 4wd. Essentially the prerunner is a 4x4 truck without the front diff, axles and transfercase :cool:
