I am getting a Truxedo tonneau installed next week - in preparation for a trip out West. It is a soft black top.

I am curious to know how hot it gets under there? I was thinking of storing a laptop and maybe a tablet in my suitcase out there in the back, but will it get too hot for those devices?

What about a cooler with ice? Any point at all having a cold drink back there?

    Thanks for any advice.

Never measured the temperature under my cover. I'm sure it's quite warm. The cooler with drinks will be fine....most likely the electronics as well. As long as they're not in direct sunlight like leaving them on the seat, I don't think they'll get any damage. I'd worry more about water leaking and getting the suitcase wet.

Not sure the actual temps either, but I'm sure it gets pretty warm. That being said...
I had my laptop and DSLR in the back of my truck (undercover hard tonneau) on my trip to CO. Temps at or near 100 in TX. No problems.

Had a soft top on previous truck, even at interstate speeds, under cover climbed above ambient temp. Have an Armour Lid on my Tacoma (strong enough to walk on) and it stays significantly cooler. Check your electronics specs for max temp, personally I would carry in cab, always did with photo equipment. Also temps were tough on a standard 48qt Igloo with the soft top (used a wet towel on top). No problem with a 5 day/90 degree Igloo with current hard top. Suggest small soft cooler in passenger footwell, refill from cooler in bed at gas stops.
