Anyone have their wheel bearings life cut DRAMATICALLY short after 35 inch tires ?

Hey guys, got a 6 inch bds lift and 35x12.5 tires, re-did my wheel bearingd about 7500km ago, both the front, and after installing new spidertrax wheel spacers my front passengers side bearing is done. Wondering if the tires and spacers are too much for the bearings, thanks, !

 

They probably weren't installed properly the 1st time.

 

brought them to a local shop and had them done, think it was a friday and they rushed through it?

 

You'd think 35's would lengthen bearing life. Much less rotation per distance.

 

This happened to me. The lift will also shorten your CV boots lives.

 

@psutaco , i dont think so, it looks like the seals are leaking , bummer, maybe its time i learned out how to do this myself. Anybody have a thread on wheel bearings? on auto locking hubs?

 

More torsional force though.

 

lol its going 2 be a pain in the ass the most i have ever done is the lift for my truck and never really got too involved with the wheel bearings, gonna go buy a pair and do the passenegers side and wait till the drivers goes !

 

With the larger tires you dramatically increased the load on the bearings. Then the added spacers you increased that load exponentially.

Yes the bearings and seals will have a shorter life span. The stock bearings and seals were not designed for that loading.

Other than going to a more robust bearing seal arrangement it will continue to be an issue. That and water washing out the grease is why you see so many threads on here about front bearing replacements.

 

I used to have bearing issues ... I have 35s for years and now on 36s. The secret lies in keeping the water out ..

the fix.. Pack wheel bearing grease inside the rear seal. No more fail. Well at least it slowed them dramatically. I'm about 1 every 10 months. I get the cheapest turds from where ever I can find eBay/ rock auto

 

thank you guys so much for the tips and advice ! i am going to pull the tire off and take a look, i bet the mechanic who worked on my truck messed something ( dont let drunk friends wrench ) lol, i will keep you all posted as once ive checked the bearing and seals i will take some pictures and post them !

35s are hard on bearings then the added spacers is also hard on them

 

U don't even have to do that if u jack up truck and grab the top of the tire and move it back and forth it ( push towards driver /passenger) any slop will tell u the bearing is junk and new seals and bearing need to be pressed on.

 

1 every 10 months. You Still have bearing issues. Just sayin.

 

I suppose then have dirty oil issues, air filter issues, brake pad issues and tire pressure issue too. A $40 dollar repair once a year is just the cost of doing business in my book

 

No kidding! Can't even imagine what it would look like if I was out like 2 times a month.

I forgot I also have twilight and mirror issues too.. Those get "serviced" at least once a year too

 

On a totally different side note I figured out the takeoff shutter I've had for 2 years now.. Turns out the lift plus bigs wheels and heavy payload is hatefull on the carrier bearing. (Which also gets annual replacement) I figured out if u toss some window weld in there and let it setup shutter goes away! Who 'd a thunk I was lover loading the abilities of a center support bearing. Next one I put together will have hot formed polyurethane formed in it for the cool factor.

This should have been stickied like 2 years ago .. I would have a lot more hair for sure

 

I would venture to say the spacers put more strain on the bearings than the tire size by moving the leverage out further, than normal on the bearings.

I know lot's of guys have spacers without problems, but I am not a fan of them.

 

I have around 30,000 miles on 37's. Same set of wheel bearings. Stock steering components. The other 50,000 miles (80K total) were on 33's, and I changed them out at 50,000 miles because you guys made me paranoid and think they must be bad. They weren't. I also greased the seal quite a bit.
