I'm sure there's a billion threads on the 2013's but I got a few specific questions. I have a 2004 with just 138k in the clock. Perfect condition just lookin to up grade. Should I just keep the 04 cause I have read some horror stories from drive line vibs to wind noise to crazy ass abs so on and so on. My 04 had none of those little problems. Im looking at 2013 dcsb off road. So here are my questions
1- how's the eletronic stuff? as in atrac, traction control and abs ( heard the abs is over reactive )
2- is the truck reslly that different from the older ones? Ya a few bells and whistles but basically the same truck with a few more ponies under the hood
3- how do they do in the snow? I got a set of snow tires for my 04 and I never put it in 4x4 even threw a food of powder
4- any major concerns or problems in the 2013?
And lastly 5- how do they hold up compared to the 1st gens. The 3.4 is basically bullet proof

Electronics are fine and you'll love the 2013 just enjoy it and yes if you mash your brakes then the abs will be grabby but most of the time for me it is great

3" Toytec spacers, Bilstein 5100s in the back with add a leaf and overloads removed.
I'd keep the first gen no matter what. Proven tough and realiable

I love my 2013, I had a 94 toyota pickup prior, and a few of my buddies have 95-04 tacos so im familiar with them.

I have no complaints with the 2013 besides maybe the gas but that comes with any truck this size.

As far as all the possible problems you've listed it happens far and few in between, people that compalin about the abs and the traction control are either serious wheelin guys or just looking for something to complain about.

But dont worry about what other think, go for a test drive yourself.

I've had my 09 for a year now, when I first got it I missed my 01 a lot but after a month with the new one I'd never go back.

I have no problems with my brakes, I love my truck! In fairness though, I've never had a first generation.

I don't think it is. The cost doesn't justify it when you can spend less on a better aftermarket setup.

I just upgraded from a 2011 to a 2013 last week and I love it.

I have a 2013 4x4 w/ no vibration, no grabby brakes and no serious wind noise. I smile every time I drive it.
I had an 87 4x4 I drove for 17 years. I have no doubt this 2013 will do the distance as well.

Yeah and a few other apps I think. All of the 2013's have the touchscreen radio with Bluetooth and that's more than enough for my media needs.

I have an 01 XCab 2.7 5 speed 4WD with 120K miles on it. Bought it new, no repairs, just maintenance, its rock solid. My only gripe now is that I'd like a slightly bigger truck. Word on the street is the 1st gens are better built and easier to work on. If your frame was inspected and sprayed, I'd hold onto your 1st gen. Drove both Tacoma and Frontier crew and like them both but I think I might wait for the 3rd gen on both trucks and decide from there. Better things are just around the corner like improved MPG and diesel engines. I know some guys will throw rocks at me for mentioning a Frontier but since they resolved their radiator/trans cross contamination issue I wouldn't be afraid to buy one. Also thinking about selling my Pontiac Vibe and having two trucks which would be really cool.

On the other hand if you're itchy and want a new one, you should be able to get some decent money for your 1st gen. I have about a half a dozen people including my nephew who would buy my truck today. There's a market for 1st gens in good shape. When I was test driving Frontiers and Tacomas both dealers pleaded with me consider trading vs private sale when they saw my truck. I'll admit, the new ones are nice, they're more comfortable, roomier, better sound systems and they ride better plus you wouldn't really be taking a hit at the gas pump. I struggle with whether to keep mine or not at times. Sept/Oct is a good time to buy with rebates and end of year sales.
Last week I was getting gas and a guy in a 93 black Toyota pickup pulled up beside me. You can tell he had it repainted. I asked him how many miles. He told me 270K and his A/C still works. I told him I had 120K on my 01. He told me "You're not even half way there". The only enemies these things have is rust and owner neglect. When I see stuff like this, it makes me think twice about buying.

Ya the entune system sounds good but I would most likely be putting subs behind the rear seats like I have in my truck. And actually the dealer low balled the hell out of me with my truck 04dc off road perfect condition they offered me 8k. And it has 137k on the clock

Ya good point. 8k is a good trade in price the more I think about it. So it's a 2013 dcsb off road for 31204 invoice. After trade and some cash I can take it home financing 16,000 hmmmm something to think about

    I had a 84 4runner, 96 Tacoma and now a 2008 Tacoma.
All great trucks, the 4runner and 96 both had welll over 400,000kms with no issues. My 2008 only has 100,000kms and has been great.

Personally, I think if you already waited this long, and your truck runs fine and you still like it, I would wait another year or so to see what the next gen brings. If you like it, you can get a 3rd gen, if you don't, then I'm sure you'll be able to get a deal on a 2nd gen.

    Just my 2 cents.

    Shawn.
