    You mean "Recreational Oil Changing"

But that happens in Canada too with people changing at 5,000 km instead of 8,000.

Just a guess on my part. But that doesn't strengthen your conclusion. ;)

My conclusion was that 'Muricans need a light to remind them when it's time to change it... otherwise they'll go until the engine sludges up.

    Hi all.

Toyota recommends every 6 months or 8000 km, whichever comes first.

    - I do my own services every 6 months (spring and fall) since I don't roll 8000 km in 6 months.
    - The first 3 services (6, 12, and 18 month) are oil and filter services and I do everything on Toyota's list plus actual level checks of both diffs and the transfer case.
    - The fourth (24 month) will be the first maintenance service and I will do most of that list myself then take it to the dealer for the first time for them to finish it.
    - Lastly, I don't care if the full synthetic I drain out with only 4000 km on it looks close to the same as it did when it came out of the jug. I will do the full synthetic oil and filter change twice a year and fully document it;
1 - in case there is any warranty issues during the 7 year extended warranty period.
2 - for my own piece of mind.

    Cheers
    Ray.

    Smartest thing you can do.
Driving less than 40 miles a week, you can really benefit from the added protection of synthetic in cold flow performance and film retention.

Just did mine Saturday. A buddy of mine runs a diesel truck shop up in Riviera Beach, and every so often I go up there and use his lift and disposal service. While I'm waiting on the block to cool enough to service, he gets free IT work.

I do it every 7000ish miles. Mobil 1 full synthetic. Rotate tires every other change. Check all fluids/filters every change, replace every other or as needed.

Then again, I'm an old-school grease monkey that misses the smell pf parts cleaner fluid :)

Every 5K for me. Do everything myself except those things that I don't have tools/equipment for... Mine has 60K on it and never had any problems. It's too easy to do it yourself (almost idiot proof) than to pay the stealership or any other service to do it...that is unless one is not able to use a tool.

2005. 142,000 miles. Never missed a service, ever. Love my truck too much and have way too much money wrapped up in it to miss out on taking care of it.

will be lucky if i get 3 free oil changes from toyota before the 2yrs is up.

after that, i will go back to a 2.5k to 3k oil change cycle since the warden barely puts any miles on it per year.

she avg's about 5k-6k per year of ownership per vehicle.

    You MAY take it anywhere.

But since only people in major metropolitan areas have more than one dealership within 100 miles....

Awesome. I schedule an appointment with my closest dealer for tomorrow.

I actually do all the maintenance work myself on all my other cars, but decided to let Toyota Care do the initial part of my Taco's life... Since it's free and it's simple. I do check they work afterwards and take precaution to make sure they replace the filter and things like that.
