If you want a washable filter, it's a great option. It won't do much for performance gains though, if that's what you're after.

I had the TRD filter, no MPG or noticeable performance gains. The intake is a CAI as it is, keep a clean filter in it whether it be a Pro Dry or OEM and it'll function well. highaltitude is selling an intake manifold spacer that seems to be getting the owners some minor MPG gains but it's not overly cheap.

    Won't help.
All it will do is save you $20 every 2 years... and allow more dirt to enter your engine.

I don't know about letting more dirt into the engine, I believe that's just a myth. I have had mine for 2+ years now with no problems. The big reason I bought one was because its easy to clean and doesn't have to be replaced. I might have gotten some performance upgrades but they were too little to notice.

In areas of fine silt, the high flow filters can let more fine particles past the filter. Higher flow comes with that trade off.

Used oil analysis consistently confirms elevated silicon levels. I've seen it on my motorcycle, and it's been seen on reports posted on the forum.
The increase is dramatic enough that Blackstone will comment that levels are high and the intake system should be checked for leaks or a damaged filter.
That is dirt being ingested and passing the rings.
It causes cylinder scoring (I've seen it), which leads to increased oil consumption.

I ran a K&N on my '94 and at 200k it was burning 2 quarts between changes.
Always joked with my wife that I really didn't need to change it, just replace the filter.

And that is all beside the issue of over-oiling of oiled filters (and it's very easy to do) fouling the MAF and causing codes.

^^^ somebody has done some research haha. If that's the case if I run a can of sea foam thorough the engine every oil change, shouldn't that help ?

    Nope.
The damage is done when the dirt scrapes past the rings on it's way into the crankcase.

Your making me want to take mine off Rich. Another reason why I love this forum.
