Sorry if this question has been asked before but I did a search for it and I couldnt find anything.

I got a 09 taco sr5 4x4(non TRD)

What is the top speed a person should go in 4x4 hi and 4x4 low?

It's net recommended to exceed 65 in 4Hi. If you need to go faster than 15mph in 4Lo then switch to 4Hi.

These are just my personal guidelines for how to use them; it should say on the sunvisor over the drivers head.

60mph in high and 5mph is low I believe.

Incorrect...you shouldn't engage 4HI until pass 62 MPH. You can drive as fast as you want in it but likely shouldn't be doing really high speeds in areas where 4WD is needed.

In 4LO, I don't think you should be exceeding like 10 MPH max, otherwise shift into 4HI as previously stated.

Hope this helps. It also should be in the owners manual.

I think you're mostly right, I think you can't engage 4hi unless you are going 60mph or less, but once you're in 4hi you can go as fast as you want.

OOps, you beat me to it. But like he said, if you're going 75 in 4hi you probably are going much faster than you should be.

When it's raining hard, I'll have my truck in 4hi going 65mph on the highway.

I don't use 4lo much in the truck. The last time I used 4lo was in a snow storm on my way home from work. I put it in 4lo just for the hell of it (because I never use it). I have an AUTO - and 35mph was about as high as I wanted to go because the engine was revving up pretty high.

You definitely would, but I have never ran 4hi for any amount of time on high-traction surfaces. Good way to destroy a T-case, or at least that is what happened to several Colorado fleet trucks where my father works. The drivers would put them in 4hi going down state roads in real light snow or rain. Eventually, they started blowing up.

I got stuck on a stretch of snow/iced highway about 2 weeks ago, had it in 4hi and on cruise set at 60 (so I was probably going about 56mph) for about 2.5 hrs and the gas gauge didn't seem to drop any faster than normal. I'm sure it lowers MPG but it won't cut it in half or anything.

I've done 70 or so in 4 Hi but in slick conditions. Snow and ice. I wouldn't use 4 Hi for wet weather but that's just me. I try to engage 4wd when I'm at a stop and disengage it like that also. Mechanics told me was better for it.

Over the years I've got about 3K in 4hi. In this truck lose only about 1 mpg, maybe little more in bitter cold, short trips, a little less on long trips when everything is warmed up.

Truck can hit the governer (109) in 4hi, 4l0 is redline in top gear, I'm guessing about 50-55.

i use 4wd hi all the time.. any speed.. lots of snow here. if you dont have a heavy foot and use it when you should i find its a gas saver. but once you get stuck and have it in 4wd and start stamping it to get out.. the needle drops lol.

4hi will lock the wheels

hey guys i got a weird situation going on. when i engage the 4H from 2H, the truck will go well in a straight line, but as soon as i make a turn it feels like the wheels get locked up. especially at 5mph and below (like, when parking), when make a tight turn, the truck will stop almost completely. it feels just like the parking brake gets engaged or something.

again, this is only in 4H. havent tried 4Lo at all yet. does anyone have an explanation?

Yes....Your drive train is binding because the front and rear are locked together. 4x4 should only be used in slippery conditions. Not on pavment.

on high traction (asphalt) or low traction (loose gravel/snow) ?

rd the visor above you haha it says 60 ish lol i think the fastest ive gone in 4HI is 65 but thats pushing it as well, dont wanna mess anything up
