No the 2nd gen is a nice truck, just sometimes better to wait if something new is coming.

Ya, I looked on Wikipedia for year model changes, and saw there were lots of changes in 2012. Is that what you are referring to?

colored dash lights are also kind of a pet peeve of mine, when I was looking for a jetta diesel, if I recall correctly only the newest models had white dash lights, older ones were red

The 2012 facelift is more akin to a 2.5 Gen. Just like they did with the 1st gen facelift (1.5 gen) It was still a couple of years after that the 2nd gen was released.

My money is on the 2015 model coming out as a "3rd gen"

My uneducated guess is 3rd gen will be out 2015, maybe 2016.
hopefully it will have a diesel option, and stay the same size, or get a little smaller.

Interesting concept. Have any new truck models been smaller than previous model year?

Instead of seeing a post, and reacting, perhaps read further, and see if the issues was resolved.

    Just watch the sales numbers:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toyota_Tacoma#Sales

Sales are still strong, and manufacturers never phase out a vehicle right after a facelift. Ford just got rid of the Ranger, and Nissan hasn't introduced a 3rd gen Frontier yet. 2nd gen will be with us until at least 2015-2017 timeframe.

I think the new truck model has been smaller than the previous model year exactly never times.
