I've just purchased my first Tacoma and I'm wanting to add more mods to the engine. Found a performance turner from GForce estimating +50 horsepower as well as 3-6 MPG improvement with their chip. Anyone added this to their rig or have an opinion on another brand?
    Thanks

    Jacob

In my time here I haven't really read of anything that gives better MPG performance than simply buying an ultraguage/scanguage and adopting better driving habits.

    But I'm probably wrong.

I agree with ya. Why would Toyota leave 3-6 mpg on the table, out of the truck, when they could use it to sell the truck.

Thanks for the info!! I'm gathering that there aren't any chip upgrades that boost horsepower but many seem to like URD TCAI with a MAF... Is this the best route to go?

if there was a way to get 50 HP from nothing but a reflash...wouldnt it just have come from the factory like that?

MAF/TCAI/exhaust are pretty much all you can do other than going forced induction

With not only the feds, but the consumer breathing down the necks of the manufacturers to improve fuel economy and power, if Toyota could increase the HP by 50, AND improve MPG by 3-6, Toyota would have that software already running in their trucks. Can you imagine the ads for the 2011 Tacoma as calling out 23/27 mpg AND 286HP? Yeah, sounds like snake oil to me on that programmer.

When you read the entire thread, there really still is no 100% results given. He was never able to run another dyno after installing the X-1, not to mention he said something about new exhaust cam gears. Where they performance cam gears? Changing the power curve for power can be done pretty easy with a cam gear change. To get a proper test he should have done a dyno after the cam gears to take them into account. Also no comment on improved fuel economy.

OK, I went to the website for the X-1, and it shows that part of their system includes "specially tuned" exhaust camshaft gears. Well heck, that would dang near make the 20-30 HP gain they are talking about already. But WOW for the price of their system I would probably just get a supercharger!

There is a lot more info out there on the x-1 than just that one thread...I'll leave you to do your own research on it

Agreed, I was just offering a suggestion that fit in line with what the OP was asking...

I don’t understand how they can sell that crap. Even with a intake, exhaust and maf calibrator. You won’t really feel a big difference in power. If you want power get a supercharger.

You can tune diesels with programmers to get better fuel economy and more horsepower and torque but that is because diesels are easier to boost and everything the Tacoma just get a supercharger, exhaust and cold air intake and you will be good plus a urd maf calibrator
