I've heard that short trip driving is rough on a vehicle. But that's the reality for me. A couple of miles each way is typical. Are there things I can do to keep my Taco running smooth, even with this type of driving?

I would do maintenance based on months and not miles (like change oil every six months), a battery tender might be useful, but most of all, get it fully warm every few weeks. And keep the gas tank full of non ethanol gas and use stabil, the blue marine version.

Plus don't let the sap and dirt accumulate on the paint...

I honestly wouldnt worry to much about it. Just stay on top of all the routine maintenance stuff and you should be fine. ;)

It take me less than a mile to work w. my 12 taco. But I take it to highway to cruise every week for 60 miles.

Starting batteries take a beating on short trips because they are typically undercharged and lead sulfate start to gradually accumulate. To prevent this, either fully recharge your battery once per month or use a float charger continuously connected to your battery when parked. During the winter, an added benefit of float charging is it will prevent the battery from freezing and give you faster starts.

For more information, please see Sections 13 and 16 in the Car and Deep Cycle Battery FAQ on www.batteryfaq.org.
