Because I totaled my Ranger and there are no more. Also because Tacoma is the only 4cyl 4wd truck and even more so that Tacoma is the only manual transmission new truck left ( besides the Frontier which required an extended cab V6 to get a manual and they're ugly anyway). I was even looking at getting a Dodge diesel until they couldn't locate me a new manual one. Glad I didn't though. I was considering a Tacoma when I joined this forum about six or seven months ago until I came upon the 2nd gen needle bearing problem thread and I changed my mind. Jump to a couple weeks ago after my Ranger was murdered I decided it was worth buying the EGCS bushing to get the truck/package I wanted. Also I gotta say the more I drive it the more I like it.

Sold our 2002 Mazda Tribute (a great little SUV) and wanted to upgrade into a larger SUV, was looking at a 4-Runner.

Then I remembered it took me two days to clean the dog hair from two Yellow Labrador Retrievers from the Mazda.....did not want to go through that again, so got a Tacoma......now the dogs get to ride in the "way back" and no dog hair in the cab......wife happy which means I'm happy.

I had a 2008 Chevy 2500 HD. I bought it because the Allison tranny and duramax diesel are legendary for reliability and durability. What is not legendary, noteworthy, or worth a hill of bens is everything else. My cruise control broke, power door locks quit, speakers gave out, finishes wore off and on and on. I could not deal with all of that for the 500,000 miles I had planned to drive that truck......not to mention the turning radius was 38 feet....literally.

I switch to the tacoma for durability, reliability, resale value, fuel efficiency, turning radius, better city truck with good offroad capability, and fit and finish quality. They Chevy severely lacked the fit and finish quality.

I bought a 2013 double cab limited 4x4. I love it. It has some stock LEDs and is very nice inside and out....plus I got the dealer to throw in bfg all terrains after 4 hours of negotiations.

I've owned four other Toyotas and have nothing but good things to say about each one of them. This is my second Tacoma first 4x4 and I love it just as I did the others

Because I'm hoping to experience what ^^^ guy did. I wanted something that would last as long as I wanted it to, with low maintenance and generally trouble free ownership.

I should have bought this truck a LONG time ago.

Everybody else was doing it! ... seriously, ALL my coworkers have either a Tacoma or 4runner. They've had absolutely no problems with them and they run them through all the crap I do every day. No issues for them, save a dead battery from leaving the radio on.

    Reliability all the way!

After moving to a rural part of Western Colorado, the wife and I wanted to do some local 4-wheeling, but not just dirt roads. After owning TWO Honda Ridgelines--which are great vehicles, but limited to well-maintained dirt roads--we decided to get an '06 Taco so we could 4-wheel and haul junk. It's NOT our daily driver and not for long trips, but it serves the purpose we bought it for. It gets parked outside and may sit for as long as a week or more before we drive it.

Well I've had a truck (full size) in one form or another for the past 36 years. This is my first non full size/non big 3 truck. Sorry I take that back. I once had a 1987 S10 Blazer. It was 4 wd and a 2.8 liter v6 and it was a dog. I just decided I didn't need a full size truck any more. That leaves (at least in new trucks) the Tacoma or the Frontier. I looked at Frontiers but they didn't do anything for me. I also wanted something that gets better mileage as my last truck, which I recently sold was a 3/4 ton Silverado and got 13.5 MPG.
So I am giving this 2013 Tacoma a try. It's a nice little truck 4 cyl/manual trans/4 x 4/ SR 5 package. We will see how it goes. Maybe I will be converted. It was a toss up between this Tacoma and a 2013 Silverado. In the end the Tacoma was approx $5K cheaper. The Silverado was more comfortable and powerful but as I said I felt I didn't need a full size truck any more. I see a lot of bashing on this site of American full size trucks. I think Ford and GM make a very good product. Dodge on the other hand isn't to be trusted and I would never purchase a Dodge truck or a Chrysler product as far as that goes!!!!

I would take a dodge with a cummins over an dmax or powrstokee any day. My last cummins went over 400k and I only sold it to down size. Every ford or Chevy I've had has been junk both motor and vehicle wise. 2 buddies have yotas, one a taco and one a tundra. Both over 100k on em, change oil, rotate tires. That's it. There tanks. That's why I got one.

Bought my first Toyota in 1975. Hellofacar! Crashed it at 236,000 miles. :-( Have had full size Ford, Dodge and GMC trucks since. I had a couple of Isuzu PUPs in there too, but they were just too small. I usually trade at 200,000 miles. My last Sierra Z-71 was costing me $500 a month in fuel alone.

Now I'm old and don't want to work on vehicles anymore (or have to pay anyone else on a regular basis). Still keeping my '89 Isuzu RS w/ 340,000 miles because it satisfies my 4WD needs. Bought a Scion in 2011 for a commuter (38mpg) and found a nice low mileage Taco thats big and comfortable enough and should be good for 300,000 miles of taking me to and from Home Depot.

I've put enough mechanic's kids through school.

Like others have said reliability and resale and if I do decide to get rid of it down the road...which I highly doubt. Coming from an older ranger I have also always loved the look of tacomas...it just works for me!

Because Ford Raptor does not offer their trucks in the build I wanted. I wanted a standard shift, Ford does not offer one. I wanted reasonable MPG. Ford does not have that, 13MPG average with mixed driving, I get a little over 19. I also liked the look of the Tacoma with a 3" lift. And last but not least, Ford was 11,000 to 14,000 dollars more then the Tacoma. Not going to happen!
