I assume this is related to your thread about your rusted out 2005.

In general if everything else was in good condition it would improve the value to me. How it would work on a normal car buyer is an unknown.

It'd almost be like dropping a brand new motor and transmission into a good frame from my POV.

The value will be the same, or in the upper end of the applicable price range without considering the repair. For example, if the truck is considered to be in Good Condition, and the price range is $12-$13,500, I'd put its value towards the upper end of that range, but no higher.

I'd turn over any paperwork related to the repair and explain what was done, and who did the work. Frame replacement should be considered the same as any other repairs, such as rebuilding all of the wear parts in the front suspension. As long as the work was done properly, it's not an issue.

If it is reported to Carfax then it may go down a little, in the eye of a buyer. Most buyers will wonder why a frame was replaced and will automatically think that there are other problems with the vehicle.

The value of a truck is really only what someone is willing to pay, but generally, this doesn't affect the value at all. It's simply classified as a part replacement, no impact on appraised value.

I don't recall if you did some other maintenance work during the frame swap. I was thinking you redid suspension and some other detail items.

Having been done by a Toyota shop should hold value if not increase from not only being new but should have later improvements.

I would also get that thing corrosion proofed and offer it as a long term truck to own.

If you are trading it in, I would push for a lot, though the dealer will give you salvage title crap or similar.

I did not vote though, since honestly, it is dependent upon the buyer and yourself where you settle for on price.

Yeah, control arms were done. We have full records on all the maintenance we did so we expect that it will be positive information for potential buyers.

So you think if we're private selling it that we should have it Zeibarted before we list it?

If it's still a hard coating process, no. I don't think those are a good idea, and a potential buyer may be concerned that the coating is covering up damage.

Why do you want to sell the truck?

When I brought my 03 reg cab sr5 4x4 in for inspection last January, the check engine light was on. Upon inspection, it was determined that I needed new brakes front and rear, the rear brakes were totally rusted, the parking brake cable did not work because it rusted and snapped, the co2sensors needed to be replaced and other misc rusted items. Total cost to pass inspection was $2,500. Two years ago, they replaced my frame. The asked me if I would take $6,500 on a trade for a 13 reg cab. I did. The total cost was $16,500 for a new replacement for my 03. They said they wanted my 10 year old truck because the frame was replaced and all of the tsb's and recalls we're addressed except one which was the rusted spare tire hanger. Even though the frame was replaced, everything else was rusted. The exterior body was not showing rust yet but when you opened the hood, everything was badly rusted. The shocks and body mounts were badly rusted.

I thought i remember you having to go back for an issue ... In any case my family has a tundra with the frame replaced.. It has lots of isssues.. Bumpers comming loose, hood not releasing.. So many little things get moved during the swap. Apparently im in the minority here.. But already living through the experience.. I will never have a vehical with a frame swap agian.

It's more truck than we need. We won't be doing regular travel which requires the capacity and power it provides any more.

The subaru we bought while this was offline for 4 months is sufficient for our needs nowadays.

As a trade in, it wouldn't matter, you would more than likely get book value regardless of what improvements were made.

An outright sale it is possible you may get a little more from someone looking for that particular year truck. But depending on the upper price range the buyer may look for a newer truck if it is too high.

I agree with these. I would be completely honest with a potential buyer and explain what happened and what was done to fix the problem. To me it would be like buying a truck that had the engine or transmission replaced. If a reputable shop did the work, they should have no worries especially if the shop is willing to stand behind their work.
