I picked up a really nice used cap yesterday, and now I'm trying to decide whether to have it painted to match my truck. I was planning on it, but now that it's on, I'm having second thoughts.

    http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/%3Ca%20href=http://s279.photobucket.com/user/drrarick/media/Misc/Tacoma.jpg.html%20onmousedown=return%20linkRedir%28this%29;%20target=_blank%20rel=nofollow%3E[IMG]http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/

I have arrangements to pick up a set of OEM steps from Craigslist on Friday. They're chrome, but if I keep the cap as is, I will probably paint those with black bedliner paint. I just got the truck, so I'm not planning on making any other changes for now.

What do you guys think? Thanks!

It doesn't look bad at all. I like the contrast.

IMHO matching the cap color with the truck makes it look like youre driving a 4Runner or an SUV of some sort. Contrasting shells keep it looking like a truck. And the black looks good against the silver.

I ask a long time body man about painting a cap. Said he didn't recommend it. Not that it can't be done but cost and results would be so-so. To do it right windows and roof rack would need to be removed and will they seal afterwards?

Don't paint it. Mine has totally grown on me and now. People always tell me to color match it, i just can't imagine what it would look like now.

Thanks everyone. I'm surprised...in addition to you guys, I had a couple of people comment on it at work today, and almost everyone likes it black. I think I am going to leave it as is...I can always paint it later if I change my mind.

I've seen plasti-dip mentioned a few times on here, but I don't know anything about it...I've got to do some research. I wonder if this is the way to go on the step tubes too.

I'm having the same issue. I don't think I'm going to color match. I'm leaning more towards a bed liner type spray. Any suggestions?
