Anyone think that Tacomas need more power? Just enough? Or underpowered ?

I think the power is adequate, but who wouldn't want MORE, I mean another 40-50 would be awesome I must say!

I'd be happy if it even was 250 HP/270 TQ. But it wouldn't make me any more happy to have what the other trucks have like Ford and Dodge.

If we could have Dual VVT-i technology with the same 1GR-FE like the newer FJ's have, I'd be happier.

My 2.7 has no trouble maintaining and accelerating up grades, but stop and go traffic can be a bit of an issue as the trans tends to hold the engine a bit low, rather than allowing it to run closer to the power band.

Once it's spinning 2500+, there's nothing wrong with the 2.7.

    Underpowered...

...and I like tiny engines and stick shifts because underpowered vehicles get good gas mileage.

more power is better. when hauling a load up long inclines i have to move the auto into 4 to get it to stop the constant back and forth shifting which drives me crazy every 5-10 seconds. i like my v6 but i never had that crap with 8 cylinders before. (shrug)

i cant stand autos that cant decide on a gear when on cruise control.

It's called gear hunting. Pretty normal for most V6's of our size, since it's only really comfortable uphill in OD when there's no more load than the truck and passengers.

Putting the trans into 4 is normal for hauling or towing uphill. I do it all the time with and empty truck because of all the heavy mods I have now (sliders, bumpers, full size spare, etc.)

The 4.0 has enough power for what I use it for. It has enough power to haul what I need, I just wish it got better mpg :deadhorse:, but hey, I bought a truck.

    ^^^THIS!^^^

I think it has great power... until I need to haul a big loaded trailer. And MPG is truly horrible. But I did not buy it for economy. ;)

Gear huntin while towing is what kills transmissions. Overdrive off towing a load is the only way to go.

It underpowered. With a massive 4.0 they should be putting out more.

Like what everyone else is saying, more power is always better but yes I find it adequate. With my 4.0 V6. My previous truck was a 1990 Toyota Pickup with the 3.0 V6, and my 3.6 V6 Jeep Wrangler felt like a race car compared to it hahaha. Now though, when I get in my jeep it feels gutless. So yes, very adequate power, but more would be awesome.

I came from a Pathfinder with a 3.3L V6, while its a bullet proof engine it lacked in power, it could barely get out of its own way. My 4.0 Tacoma is a speed demon compared to that.
