Has anyone found a tool box they are happy with? If possible, I would also like to hear from folks who aren't happy with theirs.

I am also looking for something in black with locks/levers east & west (not south). Please let me know how you fell about the quality also. Some of the ones I've seen online look pretty flimsy.

If you have something positive to say about your's please post a link to the companies website...if possible.

    Thanks!

Sorry my tool box didnt come with a compass, but my betterbuilt slimline from wal-mart in black holds most of what i need it to, has levers and locks. Opens and closes great with a little adjustment even with a 5lb fire extinguisher mounted to the underside of lid. Still gives me room to put my mt bike in the back. UWS is probaly the best but twice as much. The Kobalts from Lowes and Better builts from Wally are built by the same company also. Husky from Home depot is way to expensive.

My Kobalt from Home Depot was $250. I like it a lot

I have a UWS that was in my truck when I bought it. It's a great box, very well made. The lid is foam insulated and it has the gas struts that lift the lid. I'm selling though, just don't need a box. And with the 5' bed it takes up too much room. They are expensive but well worth the $$.

I have a uws and it is very nice, but could be deeper. In all probs the best tool box to be found though for the tacoma, and yes it does take up some bed space but oh well it looks sick

Just got a Husky on sale for $220. It is very heavy and I really like the lock/release handle set up. It fits perfect and it is big enough to be functional. Got it from Home Depot. My store had three in stock. Not sure about black, you would have to ask.

Lowes is Kobalt, Home depot is Husky. Mine is diddo to it and it holds my junk. Lowes has some nice better built hold downs for these boxes also so you dont have to drill your bed rails.

I have the same Kobalt slim toolbox from Lowe's ZacharyPaul has. I think it looks awesome in the short beds. I used 2 J-hooks on each side to secure mine. You can remove your bed rails (just a few screws) and drill holes in the bottom of them for the J-hooks instead of drilling through your bed caps. No one would ever notice holes under your bed rails with or without a toolbox.

Check my build thread. I love my UWS. Great build quality and everything stays dry. Box is super light and very sturdy. I stand on it often and have never felt it bow or bend.

If you were closer to me I would buy yours.. Shipping would be to much though I'm sure.

I have a kobalt. I would consider it flimbsy. The lock can be jiggled loose, so I put a chain around it with a lock.
Holds a spare gas can, jumper cables, and my receiver ball.

FWIW; I like all of these but I'm looking for something with a little more shoulder room and the angle on these boxes at their base is wasted space.

...again, just one guy's opinion nothing more. :)

Unless you get a slimline toolbox the angle is necessary to clear the Tacoma wheel wells, unless you have the long bed in which case I'm not sure. I had a new Dee Zee (straight, no angle)in my Ranger when I totaled it. I t wouldn't clear the Tacoma wheel wells in a regular six foot bed.

Slimline or not, you still have to have the angles to clear the wheel wells, atleast in a short bed, DC first gen.

I've always been happy with the Husky brand ones on my trucks. I don't have one on my Tacoma, but I've had them on my 3 different work trucks (Tundras) and for the price, you can't beat them IMO.
