Just picked up a 2008 Tacoma, Crew, V-6 two weeks ago. Still in stock condition. I'm at about 1K miles driven. Mostly hwy miles. I'm only getting between 16-18 mpg on the highway???? 15-16 in town. Just sold my 1995 Tacoma, 3.4 V-6, w/ 3" lift & 32" tires & was getting 20/18 mpg. I'm pretty disappointed.

    How's everyone else doing?

    First off, welcome to TW!

That sounds just a little low to me. I have 1.5K miles now on my 07 DC 4x4 V6. I got 16.3 on my first tank, mostly city driving. It has been slowly increasing with each tank. I am just a bit over 17 mpg now. I don't do enough highway to get a good feel for what I might get.

Give it time to break in. My 07's MPG was horrible until about the 5K mark.

    I appreciate all the feedback.

I casually asked my salesman about break-in. He basically said no hot rodding or towing for 1K. I burned up 800 miles last weekend PHX-LA round trip. Thought I would get a jump on the break-in. Read the owners manual today for break-in, & it reads "do not drive for a long period of time at any single speed, either fast or slow".

Hope I didn't screw anything up.

Doubt it. I drove it pretty awful during the break in period too.

How fast were you going and where were your RPM's for the majority of the trip?

I was going 70-80 mph. Not sure exactly what the RPM's were, but I was not revving very high.

Man, that truck runs really smooth. Had to watch my speed!

Glad to hear everyone say the mileage gets better. On my third tank, and barely averaging 16.

from what i hear, the key to beter mileage is to keep your rpms under 2k. for those of you with the 6 speeds that may be hard. i have heard that the way it is geard the six speed tranny only runs about 60mph at 2k. i may be wrong, can anyone with six speed confirm that?

That's pretty close, yes. I;m now driving like an old granny instead of a pissed off teenager, and we'll see the results. But it's not as much fun.:(

After more miles it will get better. I run 93 octane and have a cold air intake, exhaust, and now a cip. I get 21.9 - 23.6 Average. Remember these trucks only have a 14 gallon tank, well mine does. 45 dollars usualy fills it up from empty at 3.19 a gallon.

 - mine has a 21 gallon tank! Your gauge may say your empty, but I have a feeling you are missing the last 7 gallons.

yeah, i think all these trucks have 21 gallon tanks.... unless they messed up at the factroy and gave you the Carolla tank your's should be 21 too. I filled up yesterday and put 17.5 gallons in and my light hadnt even come on yet. It still cost me under $50, gas must be really high where you are

EDIT: nevermind, i see where you said how much you paid for gas. here 93 is about $2.79
