Auto Starter for 09 Taco...

Where can I get one.. what would you recommend, and can i install it myself???

 

What is an auto starter?

Do you mean 'remote starter'? If so, I believe you can get them anywhere but it is recommended to have a shop install it for you (unless you are good with wires and know what your doing). There are some extra modifications that need to be done to bypass the immobilizer (keeps your car immobile unless a chipped key is in range).

My other through on that is to just hide your spare chipped key in the glove box or something. I'm not sure how close it needs to be for the system to turn off.

 

i do car audio/ security for a living. a tacoma is a easy truck to do as long as you take ur time and pay attention and have the proper tools. If you dont have all the right stuff, just save urself sometime and headache and take it to a shop. new tacoma's i do for 199 installed with a lifetime warranty. but im in kansas city mo. so that doesnt help you. just dont let them rape you on it. and a taco takes under an hour to do at a shop.

 

It ended up costing me 285 installed. He said it was an extra fee to install kit for the imobilizer instead of keeping my spare key in the glove box.

No I have no pictures of setup. I had it installed by Pro Audio in Pittsfield Ma. The total cost that I paid so far has been 309 including tax. The automatic door locks will not operate when I start the car with remote, I have to use key or stop engine with remote then use auto lock. If I want that fixed it will cost me another 40 bucks so I can use the remote starter control to lock and unlock doors. To much security crap to deal with.

 

that is such bullshit.. dont let them pull that on you.. it take 20 seconds to hook up the lock and unlock wires. that stuff pisses me off. when i install a remote start i hook up locks and trunk if the vehicle came with those from the factory. if you can find out what brand of remote start it is .. i will get you the wiring code so you can have keyless entry.

 

Sounds like a great add on but where do I go to have it done? Can a radio shop do this? I do have a guy I trust with radio but do not know if he can do this.

 

The remote says on the front CompuStar on the back it says 1BAMR FCC ID VA5JR760AM433 IC ID 7087A-R760AM Made in China. Thanks for your help

 

I have a manual and just decided to get the auto locks installed. Cost me 164.00. One of the best investments yet on the truck. I would always forget to lock the doors so I figured that if I had this with the keys I would not forget. Although I have frozen my ass off here in Nova Scotia I could live without the starter. I think the 309 was a little pricey and then wanting to charge you an extra 40 for locks was BS. I agree you probably can do it yourself

 

That extra charge does sound like bullshit!

Can you recommend a brand? Also, do all remote starters allow you to use the lock/unlock with the remote starter fob? I don't want to carry around two fobs. What kind of special tools do you need to do the job? Thanks, Jesse

I have a Viper Remote start for my manual 09 Tacoma. It is a litle trickier for manual as you have to put truck in neutral with foot on brake, set the e-brake, take foot off brake, and then set the auto start button on the key fob. i love it!
Comes with new key fobs for unlocking doors etc.

Just got one put in yesterday for $325 in New York. Prestige by Audiovox. My double cab has power locks with no door remotes when I bought it, just immobilzer key. Now the doors open, it has a remote start with the immobilzer bypass and an alarm. This weekend I'm waiting for the electric Pop & lock so that when I lock the doors, it also locks my tailgate. This alarm lets me turn off the annoying chirps and alarm horn when I'm in my quiet upstate nieghborhood but on when I venture into the city.

 

Have any of you guys run across this problem:

While the truck is running, i press the remote start, after it beeps, i take the key out, the truck runs for about 5 seconds, then shuts off. On my other car, i was able to do this and get in and out of the car for like 10 minutes and it wouldn't shut off...

any help would be appreciated...

 

What make/model r/s are you using? Also, what kinda security bypass are you using? My best guess would be something to do w/ a change in voltage from the key sense circuit when you remove the key.

It could also be the computer recognizing that the key has been removed (just a stab in the dark as i'm not 100% sure on the type of engine immobilizer uses) but try to keep the key next to the ignition next time you give it a go. if it stays runnin until you pull it away there's your issue.

 

I bought a Viper 1400XP when Circuit City went outta business for 40 bucks. Still have yet to install it. I'm going to need a long open weekend. Probably going with a PKALL for immobilizer. the12volt.com has been a great resource for me
