So I recently had an accident with my Tacoma. Bad part is, my insurance had a gap right when the accident happened so it was not covered. I would like to rebuild my tacoma. The integrity of the frame seems to be ok and the engine is ok. Just needs quite a bit of body work. Any advice on where i can purchade a new cab? Was thinking of looking at some junk yards. And any advice or help is greatly appreciated! Thanks TW!

Oooh that looks pretty bad. Was it rolled? If insurance isn't covering it I would say junkyard would be your best bet, but I wouldn't expect any of the cabs on junkyard trucks to be in really good shape either.

take out your back seats and give yourself a ~10 foot bed...

and replace mirrors and windows and call it good.
Do you really want to spend your money making your hood look good?

One of the vendors here sells hoods. maybe camelback or rockauto at a pretty good price

Ya it rolled :( But what can you do. Insurance wont do anything. And I'm ok with the cab not looking the best. I can always do paintless dent removal and/or repaint it.

Well I can find a hood online for pretty cheap. Under $200. Thats a long ass truck bed! haha. I love my double cab though. I dont know if I could deal with not having a back seat again. But it is a good option if need be.

Do you need the double cab for storage or for seating?
If for seating... check this out. http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/1st-gen-builds/117265-box-rocket-2003-trd-doublecab-84.html I was going through his thread last night. Go back 1-5 pages.. His install of seating in the bed is somewhere in there.

I'm not sure how street legal that is however. I think it is similar to a jeep? Or at least a older jeep. Pretty sure they have rear seating in a model.

The long bed would be nice.. Do you have a SB or LB right now?
Just add on a few to that number and give it some thought :rolleyes:

That will cost more to fix than it is worth. Driving without insurance is never a good thing. Never.

Well I have found quite a few Cabs for tacomas for around $2000. My only issue is most of thme are 2013. So I'm not sure if that would work for my 2006 frame? Any one have any idea?

You've made some bad decisions lately. We've all been there, to some degree. But guess what? You can out a stop to your bad decision streak.

Part the truck out, save the money, then buy a car or truck that you can afford to buy, afford to drive, and most importantly, afford to insure. Hopefully you didn't owe money on the truck, that's a whole other can of worms.

A lot of crap and too much money spent
I would have to agree with the other guys on here. I don't think it would be worth it. I would be thinking about parting it out as Hollywood Ball mentioned and get a new vehicle.

Your only hope is to find a good deal on a flood damaged Taco, and swap the body.

Much easier said than done, but that's the only solution I can think of.

get a new vehicle or put your inards into another truck that is no longer working, which may be hard to find.

I still owe about 20k on it. I didn't hit anyone. I was offroading with my girlfriend and I let her drive. She took a turn too fast and lost control. Gaunt596 Thanks for that info man! But guys I do work at a Toyota dealership as an apprentice mechanic. So I have a few guys willing to help. I just have to pay for the parts.

Anything can be fixed within reason. If the frame isn't tweaked I would fix that truck in a heartbeat. Yes it's going to be a lot of work and it may take a while but so does paying off a wrecked truck. Check out car-part.com for body panels and a cab. Looks to me like a cab, a few doors, and some glass it might be driveable again. With access to a 2 post lift a cab swap is surprisingly easy. Just need to find and pay for the parts.

When I was 18 my girlfriend at the time was behind the wheel of my first truck, a 77FJ40 when a brake line popped. I wasn't in it at the time as I was picking up my spare tire that fell out of the back (roof off with no tailgate or tire carrier) on the way up the ski hill we drove up. The truck went screaming by me with her screaming. Fortunately she jumped out because it tumbled end over end most of the way down the hill. I thought it was toast, and I had no insurance whatsoever as I had bought it 2 days before for $150. I got that back on the road again but of course 22 years ago FJ40 parts were a lot cheaper than they are now.
