This is the new tablet, cant go wrong getting a nexus. For everything android related Id suggest www.androidcentral.com
$229 shipped to your door, cant beat that for a top of the line tablet.

If you plan on doing a real budget there is 80$ android tablets out there that will most likely do your basic google maps OBD2 and music player just fine.

The mount I used is this one, Its actually a little too big, but I have a case on my tablet that adds about 5mm in width and it fits snug. I might modify this one to get it to fit perfectly flush with my dash. The problem with anything universal is they're bulky. Either way, it sits about 3.5inches out as is which isnt too bad. Alot sleeker then a windshielf or dash mount that are typically huge. Its strong!, no way its falling out.
    $31

Here's some other mount options that supposedly will fit snug without a case. all universal and will fit bigger devices. Nexus 7 is probably the smallest tablet out there.

The OBD2 reader is this one here. Apparently these cheap ones off ebay don't work but I've had zero issues. Top of the line ones cost 100$.
This one cost 23$. I've been leaving it plugged into my truck 24/7 and just hitting that red power button when I want to connect. Because it will stay on all the time if you dont and get a little warm. Theres even cheaper 5 and 10$ ones. I picked the one that specifically said android in the title just to better my odds of everything working.

And if your interested the 10$ case im useing is this one http://www.amazon.com/Poetic-Slimli...=1-1-catcorr&keywords=poetic+nexus+7+slimline
You really want a case anyways even if the mount you find fits the nexus 7 naked, you'll be tossing it into your glove box a few times.

    Some features..

Vice city with a ps3 controller, also works with bluetooth but kindoff a pain in the ass. Game developers still got some work to do on that front. Android has all the good games and tons of them work with no modification needed, just plug in the USB from a ps3 controller and your good to go.

ODBII reader sending info to this app via bluetooth. Can tap into any sensor available in the truck and tablet and create custom dashes. Volts and MPG are worth it alone since we all know our trucks didnt come with those, plus it acts as a complete code reader/clear codes etc. That MPG reading is the instant one. Jumps all over the place in milliseconds. I switched the average MPG and it will change every few seconds and shows an average of about 18mpg. Sounds right for the granny driving I was doing at the time.

Of course you got a media player, this one works pro with our trucks. A few dont have proper bluetooth support, this one works the best. Turn the key and go and wont mess with the bluetooth audio from other apps. Album art and a real equilizer are slick.

Then of course you got movies, google maps, also several options for offline maps so you can use it without data charges. A sweet dashcam app that I havent set up yet, stay tuned for bigfoot and alien videos.

Oh and sony also has these awesome little remote screens, which the same OBD reader app im useing will send a feed to it wirelessly. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.prowl.liveview.plugins.sandbox&hl=en

Nice write up! I'm using the 1st Gen Nexus 7 with Backcountry Navigator and or course Torque. Using an Exomount. I might upgrade my JBL stereo to a touchscreen for music playing but keep the Nexus 7 for Torque and Backcountry Navigator...

That app looks awesome. I will give the trial a go next time Im heading up some back roads. That app paired with a backroads mapbook should open up the backroad exploring alot.

How is it for city mapping? I was really impressed with mireo dont panick offline maps while driving out of country. It uses tom tom maps but is purely turn by turn navigation. No real exploring of maps.
