Got my oil changed at the dealership today and they said my brakes would need replaced real soon. I have 38k on it. I didn't have to change the brakes on my Dakota till I had almost 80k. When did you guys replace the pads on yours? (front)

120k on my fronts, still got some life in them, gonna replace when I break it down next. A lot of highway miles and I don't ride my brakes.

A set of quality aftermarket pieces will outlast the OE stuff for sure. I use Hawk LTS pads and Hawk rotors. Other good brands are Powerslot, DBA, EBC etc.

I am on my third set of fronts and second set of rears at 70000. I tow regularly and drive in stop and go traffic.

I have 32k and mine are still within new pad specs. I have gone to three different dealerships to get it maintetenced and when the time comes, they have told me that they were excelent.

Depends on driving habits but 38K on the tacoma is a little low.

I'm 49 years old. I drive like it too, always try to run the speed limit, easy on the gas pedal, etc. I haven't even been pulled over for almost 20 years. I normally wouldn't even think of changing them until at least 50k.

I would say that your dealer is trying to screw you. Based on what you say are your driving habits there is no way you need brakes on a 2012 Truck with 38K.

My last 1993 truck I sold last year with the original brake pads still on it. They were still serviceable too. I replaced the brakes on my wife's 1998 Sienna Van at 110K miles.

You must drive with your foot on the brake pedal or there is something wrong with your brake system.

I see no other way to wear out a set of brake pads 25,500 miles.

I had 120 K on mine, and a lot of life left, that's the front. At 141 K the rears are getting close to needing replaced for the first time. Almost all inner city driving. I had to do the calipers, and used OEM pads again.

Any way you can snap a pic of the thickness of the front pads? If there is meat on them, I would cry foul..

I got just over 70k out of my fronts but I've replaced 2 members pads under 30k miles. The newer Tacomas seem to eat up pads for some reason, at least that's a trend I'm noticing. I've got 95k on the rears and they're still fine. I don't think I'll need to replace the rears as long as I own the truck.

During my 25k service, my service adviser told me my pads probably wouldn't make it to my next service. He was right - I changed my pads at 28k. Strangely, the only pad that was really thin was the inboard passenger side pad (2-3mm). The inner left pad had about twice as much material left. In any case, I found a set of OEM pads on ebay for $58 shipped from a dealership.

I am pretty hard on the brakes though (hard to break old track habits) and I do haul a lot.

Only way to know for sure if they need replacement is to look yourself.
I too have replaced factory brakes at about 22K miles but not on a tacoma.

I replaced mine around 120k with more stock pads. Should probably check on the rears; got almost 153k miles going and they haven't been changed.

59000 on my 2009 still haven't needed to replace them yet just had it inspected they said theres still about 10-15000 left on them. I had 90,000 on my 2001 before I had to change them.
