Might be wheel bearings too... If it increases with speed then its a rotational part ETC wheel, Driveshaft, Pulleys...

I think its either wheel bearings, U joints or a belt.

To check wheel bearings, Place lead foot on bottom of tire preventing it from shaking the whole assembly and push and pull the wheel from the very top. If there is play its a wheel bearing, Try all four tires.

To check U-Joints, Get under your vehicle and shake your driveshaft if there is play in any direction of movement besides rotational then its a u-joint. Check Carrier Bearing as well.

To check for a belt simply give it a once over and look for any dry areas or cracked ribs, Usually cracks in a belt means its time to be replaced.

Yea it isn't a belt if your speed effects it. Is it just a squeak or more of a creaking noise.

It wouldn't be a bad idea to change them out, but I don't think that's the noise. I might be wrong, but could it be brake shoes? Don't drum brakes self adjust in reverse? Does it squeak at all when you push the brakes? Forward or reverse?

    Build thread coming soon!
If it sounds just like that video, it's u-joints. That's exactly what they sound like when the needle bearings inside have turned to dust

Do your u joints asap. Mine started making the exact same sound this weekend and im taking the drive shaft in tomorrow. Its the rear u joint and mine will barely move in one direction so it would only be a matter of time before it breaks and then your really in trouble.

Mine barely had any play in it but once i unbolted the carrier bearing and moved it around, the rear u joint would make the squeak sound.

It could a be a seized U-joint thats only getting movement in reverse, In drive its pretty much seized dried and fried but in reverse you might be free-ing it up a little which is causing the sound.

how will i know if it the front or rear one? The sound is hard to tell, but it is coming from the driveshaft. How would that cause at what you said cause the drivshaft is spinning the other way?

I would replace both, When in reverse your driveshaft is going counter clockwise if i can remember right from auto shop, You drive in reverse ALOT less frequently then you do in drive so the bearings inside the joint are smashed from driving, But switching rotation might be knocking something lose and causing the sound.

Your u-joints probably are dust, When you take the caps off you'll have rust and needle bearings fall out indicating a for sure seized u-joint.

Replace both with greasable zerk u-joints and youll be covered either way. Even if its not the sound id do it if it hasnt been done in your ownership.
