No vehicle does well with the oil nor the dirt that passes through the filter. No improvements either.

    Here is what K&N says.

    1. How will a K&N filter affect my vehicle's fuel economy?

"There is a relationship between air filter restriction and mileage. The theory behind this is simple, the harder an engine has to work to suck air through the intake tubes and air filter, the more gas gets wasted in the process...... We certainly understand why it is theoretically possible for a consumer to experience a mileage increase after installing a K&N air filter or intake system, however, we do not go so far as to make a general claim that our air filters and intake systems will provide an increase in mileage."

Not really since the throttle plate under anything but wide open throttle will be the thing that makes an engine "work to suck air" which is exactly how engine speed is regulated. At 55 mph the throttle plate is almost completely closed, rendering any possible restriction before the throttle plate inconsequential. Were the air filter restricted, the throttle plate would adjust slightly to compensate.

It is not true that more gas gets wasted when a filter is restrictive.

I bought a 2014 DCSB V6 AT a few weeks ago. The first tank with 87 ethanol was 19.7 mpg with about 30% city driving. I put 93 non ethanol in it. I got 21.1 mpg with about 40% city, that was keeping the rpm's around 2000 an under 70 mph.

    1500 miles, 5 fill ups.
Mix of dirt, paved roads. Some 4wd on snowy, slushy roads. Some idling in cold weather to clear windshield. Little hi way.
    Low 18.3, hi 20.3, avg 19.25.

basically the same as I was getting in my 2001 DCSB.
Leer cap due in a couple weeks. Be interesting to see if it has any effect.

My 2009 Regular Cab 4x4 4.7L 5 speed gets 18mpg local and 20-22mpg highway travel.
I'm believe it'd get 24+mpg on the highway at 60mph but I've not taken such a trip and it likes to go 70-80.

V6 DC 4x4, lifted, bumper, sliders, about 13-17 avg on fill ups. My mpg took a hit with tires, 265/70R17/C, and also my bumper. I imagine its from aerodynamics more than bumper weight. I don’t live and work far, but still sucks when I go out of town. Trucks paid for, but I still get disgusted with mpg. I can't justify overall cost to get new vehicle versus keeping Taco. Not to mention I got an itch to get sports car again.

I have a 2014 dcsb. It has 9,000 miles on it. I was consistently getting about 17.5 mpg. However, I put a skid plate on it and the mpg has dropped to 15-15.5....has anyone else experienced this?

How long ago did you put the skid on? Could be the winter weather with colder, denser air takes more fuel. I get 18.5 to 19 in the summer and about 15 in the winter.

2013 4x4 TRD Sport DCLB and a tonneau owned for just over a month. Just me slow poke city driving (4 miles one way to work, 45 mph max) a little over 18.5, loaded for the holiday week (with hitch mounted bike rack and two bikes) running the speed limit on 65-75 mph highways it came in around 17.5. Not very impressed with the highway number, and it seemed to run out of power about 85 mph passing a truck which I wasn't to happy about either.

My previous 2000 318ci Dodge Ram was averaging less than 12 city before new replacing the drums that were out of round and dragging on the shoes, went up to 13. While rebuilding the front end I found a caliper that was dragging, replaced both calipers and the mileage went up to 14. Point being, check your brakes.

New 2015 TRD Pro with less than 500mi. on it. 1st fill up that I was able to check got 16.5 or so but that was a lot of stop and go driving and 75mph freeway coupled with a bit of just letting it run to warm up as I was pulling it out of the garage a few times to work on it. Will be doing a 400+ mile run in a few weeks to get my shell so I'll see what it does.

What percentage of City/Highway? I'm about 70% highway and do 450-480km until the low fuel light comes on. I can do 520-550km if I almost run it to empty but never do. Truck is a TRD AC with an AFE filter and BFG All Terrain T/A's.

We are starting to get our trends on the Tacoma. I have added it to my signature. My wife claims she gets better mileage with it than I do...but all of her driving has included more highway driving. ;)

I have averaged 19 mpg interstate during summer and 18 winter. I haven't been able to get good numbers on 2 lane highway yet, but I think it will do over 20 easily (lower RPMs than interstate).

Just an update. After lift and tires, I'm down to 18.4.

    70% highway driving.
