Fuel Milage for your 2nd Gen Taco..

I've got a 2013 DCSB V6. I have tracked every drop of gas and mileage in my truck, which I bought 1 year ago this week, with the Gas Cubby App. I have always gotten between 20 and 22.5 MPG. My 1 year average is slightly over 21 MPG. If I'm mostly highway, I get 22 MPG. If I'm mixed, I get 21 - 21.5 MPG. If I'm mostly city driving, I get 20 - 20.5 MPG.

I wanted a long bed when I purchased my truck but would have had to wait a month to get it. I've heard the longbed gets the same if not slightly better from a friend who has had both the long bed and shortbed and is actually the person who turned me on to the gas cubby app. Is anyone else using the Gas Cubby App on their phone?

 

Normally 23-25, but short trips are a killer.
Shopping with SWMBO today, gassed up this morning, and after maybe 30 miles of short hops from store to store (engine fully warmed up) the Ultragauge is showing about 15mpg.

It'll be reading 22+ Monday by the time I get to work, but short trips and in-town traffic are a killer.

 

2012, V6, Auto trans, 4x4, Access Cab here. 17.7 mpg if I drive highways and try to keep it under 2100 RPM. Less if just city driving or hard driving. I have a VW GTI for daily use and thrash on it as needed saving the Tacoma for when I need truck duty and/or off-road capability.

 

'07 base standard cab shortie with 31k. driven conservatively. About 18 city with A/C, about 20 city no A/C, about 23 mixed driving little or no A/C.

 

My 2012 stock dclb with a leer cap gets 19-20 usually although I have been over 20 in my last few tanks. That's about 50/50 city highway with kid haulin, wet dogs, canoe, lumber, work commuting etc all sorta mixed in there. I am pretty light on the right foot but not shy about hittin it when I need to

 

Stock suspension on my '12 Sport with 32" tires, 18.5 to 20 mpg regularly.Towing, off roading, and hauling ass all bring it down real quick.

Well, I did an empty truck Interstate run of almost 1000 miles in hopes I would get better mileage than my typical day use (city and highway mixed)... San Diego County to Tucson, Arizona: I-15, 52, 67, I-8, I-10 and back. I did the run at 5 mph over the posted limit for most of the run (to stay with traffic flow)... So 70-75 in California and once out of the Yuma low speed area, 75-80 in Arizona. I was never able to break the 18 mpg mark... 17.9 was my best tank and 16.5 worst... all highway, no load, new tires all at 34 psi (normal highway pressure for these).

In Mexico, with a full camping load, I get better highway mileage... imo because the gasoline isn't diluted with ethanol.

 

26-27 MPG average.

I drive mainly on highway to construction sites (about 75% of my miles are highway) Sometimes heavy city and heavy freeway traffic.
Haven't towed anything yet, but I constantly carry about 200-300 pounds of gear and tools in the bed with tonneau cover.

 

I think we need to separate V-6 from I-4 stats as there is a huge difference between them, also 4 door vs. 2 door... 4WD vs. 2WD... manual vs. automatic. It would be so cool to get over 20 mpg, but I never will with my V-6 automatic 4WD, 4 door, on American gasoline!

Honestly 15-16 City and 17-19 Hwy is what anyone can expect with a V-6 like mine.

 

2013 Access cab V-6 6-spd 4x4. I've been getting around 19+ empty and recently towed about 1800lbs for a couple of tanks and was seeing 16ish. Seems average for this set up compared to what I've been reading.

I haven't done a true test but roughly and i get the same MPG. When you have the 4.0 L v6 and a DC LB 4x4 it can make a huge difference. That and my 200km drive to work and back can be hectic sometimes in traffic and it just kills the MPG

 

Keep your highway speed down to 60-65 and you can easily pull 20+

 

Why are these numbers not that consistent? Is it error in people's math, or error with random trucks?
Have stock guys claiming 16, lifted with big tires claiming 18, 1 size over stock claiming 18, stock claiming 20, etc....

 

Different drivers, elevation, fuel quality, driving conditions, etc....

Like I said... look at my Fuelly link for my MPG over the last 18 months.
Yet, yesterday, 30 miles of "around town" shopping netted just under 15mpg for the day.

The commute to work Monday will pull that up... but if traffic is moving TOO fast and my speeds get up to 75, I won't clear 23mpg. If traffic is slow but steady... rolling 50-65 without a lot of start/stop, I'll see 25+.

 

You can drive 55 every day.

Problem... being respectful and driving 55 in the slow lanes slams me over with the trucks... which are rolling 75 down hill and 35 up hill.

 

2011 DCLB 4x4 LT265/70R17 Duratrac's netting between 18-19mpg in 75 mile round trips to work. This is highway driving going 70mph. Also have Icon's at all 4 corners with the front coil-overs cranked down for only 1.5in lift. Also use a fiberglass topper most of the time and that neither helps nor hurts my mpg.

Personally I think tires have the largest MPG impact - both in rolling resistance and tire weight. (Besides the obvious of 4x4 and 2.7 liter versus 4.0)
